Dean Is Not A Brony by SurlyCat

Summary: There's only one table left at the cafe, and Dean really really wants it, despite the guy that's already heading for it.
Wherein Dean makes an ass of himself to get the table, Cas is gracious, there's a dog with an unfortunate name, and these two dorks figure out a relationship.
This is one of my favourite comfort reads, a low-key modern AU about awkward first meetings and figuring out a relationship from there. There’s nothing particularly special about the setting or the backstory for our characters, which sounds like a negative but really isn’t. It’s a low angst, meet-cute kind of story that charms with heart and humour rather than relying on bigger dramatic moments to make itself memorable, and that’s not a bad thing at all.
It also turns the tables slightly by making Cas someone who has known he’s attracted to men for some time but has never really acted on it, which is more often Dean’s journey with his sexuality. Their banter establishes the flirtatious relationship between them early on, but things slow down a bit after that, and it’s nice to see Dean being sweet and supportive towards Cas as he gets used to being in a relationship with another man for the first time (also, it’s pretty funny.) As previously mentioned, there’s only a little bit of angst in this one, just enough of a situation to raise the stakes for the boys without interfering with the overall fluffiness. Also fluffy: Dean’s tiny dog.
