Last Friday morning I went to fuel up before my commute to work and realized I had a flat on my rear passenger tire.
I got my spare and had my little Tacoma jacked up and was cracking the last nut with the iron when three guys came up, the leader asking if he could help. A little irritated I said "unless you've got an impact wrench I'm not too sure we can speed this up, but thank you" he smiled and got a socket set which did also speed things up and directed one of the other guys to swap the tires.
"That looked tough. We thought we should come see if there was anything we could do" I gave them a thanks, beginning to warm up a bit. The third guy complimented my JRE sticker and pretty much stood back while I got the chain for the spare wound back up and put the flat in my bed.
The leader grabbed a section of threaded pipe, the boys were all on the clock about to go out and do some ditch work -so happy to draw out their pit stop. He said "now this won't get it as tight as your impact but it will be close" and used it as a cheater bar. He then said "well I'm just impressed you know how to change your tire," I think they may have appreciated I identify with tradesmen as well when work came up. The ol’ pack leader told me he wanted me to keep the pipe, he of course, was a Texan. When I sent a text to my new boss saying I would be a bit late he responded with: “Ok. Did you call your husband?” I’ve been getting a lot of laughs and experience in the three weeks I’ve been working at his shop already.
