Wasn’t an entirely FAVORED subject, and she would have rather crawled than burden someone else with its knowledge or talk about it at all, but Clara deserved an explanation. Why she could be restless, and obsessed. So long as she sat across from her on the couch, sharing a pack of MALTESERS with keen ears. But it didn’t ease the fraying nerves beneath calm exterior.
It wasn’t as EASY as saying she was a teacher or a consultant, it was more complicated and complex. And Clara lived in England, Charlotte’s home was still in the confines of California. If there ever existed the safest place, it would be here or the TARDIS.
To say the least, it was just… EMBARRASSING.
❝ I actually don’t go to school. ❞ She then canted her head to one side. ❝ When I was SIX, some things happened and for about 10 years, I kind’a… had to teach myself everything I know now. All I remember is my DUMB piano recital. ❞ Bits and pieces of it. ❝ My early mornings I get to keep my pajamas on. ❞
Charlotte posed a broad smile, stealing another piece of chocolate. ❝ Thank god too, I WEEP for the kids who have to deal with teachers LIKE YOU. ❞ She teased, of course.
CURLED UP ON HER very comfortable sofa, Clara had somehow - she’s quite proud of herself for it - figured out a way to bribe Charlotte to sit and talk. Honestly, she saw a lot of herself in the girl, keeping things to herself after a trauma. Not that losing her mother seemed to, for the little she’d learned, been even a fraction as painful as what Charlotte had been though. But that still didn’t make them different in the regard where it truly mattered.
AND IT’D WORKED, TO her great pleasure, as Charlotte was finally talking, allowing her to be a sympathetic ear. She would admit her eyebrows rose quite a bit at Charlotte’s confession, already wondering just how far behind - if at all - the girl was. Charlotte was nothing but extremely intelligent; she convinced herself couldn’t be terrible. But she said nothing, not yet, simply listening.
BUT, SHE COULDN’T HELP but laugh at the jab the girl so deftly tossed at her, nearly choking on her latest Malteser, covering her mouth. “ I’ll have you know my students love me! “ With another chuckle, she smiled at Charlotte, reaching out to pat at her hand. “ If you ever need a second opinion or an explanation for something, I’m available always. It’s radical, I know, but teachers have great ideas about how to learn things easier and faster. “
