I’m thinking of post-canon Gino discovering Zero’s identity as Suzaku and immediately embracing him and breaking down bc “holy shit man you are alive??!!” And from there on at, he won’t leave Suzaku alone and Suzaku at first wants to keep him awa my bc this is his punishment or whatever, but Gino is persistent and worms his way back into his life.

I’m thinking of any and all feelings and attraction toward Suzaku that Gino had shoved down resurfacing and him just accepting that he adores Suzaku— that when they’d first met, he’d seen a boy his age who carried this darkness and sorrow within him, who he’d persistently pestered until being let in to see this wonderfully kind, genuine person buried in so much suffering. And he’s so endeared by Suzaku, and he wants to help him thru all this awful, heavy shit— and ever since zero requiem, Suzaku is a shell of who he used to be, and Gino just wants to be there for him.

Cue the weirdest situationship of the century as the two of them are kinda lovers but also not really?? Gino is so gentle and affectionate and warm to Suzaku— and Suzaku cares for him, feels a lot toward him, but is so broken down and closed off to romantic connection, after losing both Euphy and then Lelouch, like he’s so fucked up, he can’t reciprocate Gino’s feelings the way he wishes he could. And he tries to push Gino away, bc Suzaku knows he’s not emotionally stable enough to give Gino a healthy relationship. But Gino is happy to have Suzaku, to be there for him in any form, and accepts that Suzaku doesn’t feel quite the same and just wants to be close to him. Not quite but kinda unrequited love, friends with benefits, kinda partners, something in between idk??

Like Gino knows he’s not Suzaku’s first choice, and not even his second choice. He’ll never be Princess Euphemia or Emperor Lelouch. He knows that Suzaku sees them in his dreams, longs for them, sees them everywhere he goes— and he doesn’t resent Suzaku for it, bc yeah it hurt, but Suzaku has been through so much hurt, it can’t be helped.

They are stuck in limbo with a relationship that cannot be labeled, cannot be contained, serves as both a source of comfort and of anguish… and idk man.

I want to write this into a fic so look out ao3… I may do just that 🫣🫣🫣
