Boy Howdy, I must have talked about my chicken to everyone I know but never once have I mentioned it here!! :0
Meet Iona (pronounced eye-own-ah)! She was born Sept. 3rd this year and I got her when she was just a week old. Now you may be thinking cool, it’s a chicken but she’s not just any chicken, she’s a Svarthöna! Svarthönas, also know as Swedish Blacks, have a rare gene called fibromelanosis, which means that she is completely black. That includes black feathers, skin, meat, and even her bones. This breed is exceptionally rare and is considered the blackest breed, surpassing the Ayam Cemani. I was lucky enough to have purchased her from a local hatchery and I honestly can't tell you how much I love her! She is such a well behaved, friendly bird and I just adore her! Because I love her so much I thought I'd share it with all of you, and if you have any questions please ask! ^•^ (Also fun fact her favorite food is grapes)
He may be bred for a snow climate, but he hates it
