Reinald found himself In a…well, simply saying ‘bad state’ wasn’t quite right. He felt like a caged Pokémon was better fitting. And that was his indication something was severely wrong. His temper has been far too on edge lately. Even his students have noticed—some have even approached and asked if things were okay, but he simply brushed them off. Things were not okay though, and he damn well knew it. They all did.
“Dammit…,” he quietly swore under his breath as he paced his office. “Dammit, dammit, dammit.” He realized he was pacing again and willed himself to stop. But, not being in motion just seemed wrong. As if he were a stone in the river, with the rest of the world coursing around him and he’s just stuck there. Everything felt wrong.
“Calm down, Hatcher…,” he tried to tell himself. He couldn’t let this sort of attitude plague him. He needed to keep a level head, or else… But, it was hard to do so when his best friend (if the police officer could still be considered that) was attempting to do things he had no involvement in. Alex was no Faunus. He had no reason to try and lead a revolt for Faunus rights. And yet he was trying to do just that.
The thought of Alex had him pacing once more, growling as he did so. “That damn idiot…!” Tensions between him and Alex have been at an all time high since Alex started speaking of this. There was nothing wrong with showing support for Faunus. But trying to lead a revolt?! This was insane! Idiotic! There weren’t enough words that described how exactly Reinald felt about it.
Pacing his office wasn’t doing anything though. He needed to stop this moron. He couldn’t let this happen. He needed to talk Alex out of this. With a huff, Reinald grabbed his jacket and made his way out. He didn’t have any classes for the rest of the day, so there was no issue of just leaving campus. Reinald knew the way to the precinct where Alex worked by heart. They typically got food together every few days and chatted about work or other events that came up.
Perhaps it was fortunate that Alex had been talking to the officers at the front desk rather than working back at his cubicle, because with Reinald in the state he was in would’ve just chewed out the other officers until Alex showed up. Alex looked over at Reinald, mildly surprised to see him there. After their last talk, he honestly wasn’t expecting to see Reinald again so soon. “What is it you need, Reinald?” He asked. Behind him he heard one of the Growlithes growling, and that made him a bit wary. Sure, they could be a little feisty at times, but the Growlithes didn’t typically growl unless they felt they were in danger.
“I’d like to speak with you. Outside.” Reinald said no more and just turned to walk back out. Alex would follow eventually.
Alex couldn’t understand why Reinald sounded so upset. Was it over the idea of a revolt? Sure, Reinald didn’t seem keen on the idea, but this is what the Faunus needed. They needed to be able to show they were just as important as anyone else and that they shouldn’t be discriminated against. Alex did eventually follow Reinald outside and was greeted with the sight of the Stoutland Faunus pacing. Something was wrong.
Reinald made no move to acknowledge Alex’s presence, but he was aware his supposed friend had joined him outside. He paced a bit longer before he eventually stopped and fixed him with a glare. “I demand you stop this talk of this damn revolt now.”
“Reinald, we’ve been over this,” Alex replied. “You guys aren’t acting. Nothing comes out of that. You need to fight for these rights!”
“Dammit Alex!” Reinald snarled. “If you just used your head for a minute you’d understand! This isn’t your place to make these decisions!”
“I don’t see you or any other Faunus stepping up to do this,” Alex argued back. “If you won’t someone else can and will. You guys deserve it. I don’t get why you’re being so against this.”
“I’m against this because you’re going to get innocents killed!” Alex was going to protest, but Reinald cut him off. “Don’t give me your bullshit! I’ve had enough of it! You have no right to make the choices for my people!”
“Then go ahead, make your own choices! But I’m telling you now, not doing anything won’t solve shit! You need to stand up for yourselves and show that the humans can’t just keep controlling you!” Reinald snarled again at those words and all at once, Alex became distinctly aware of the sheer negative feelings emitting from the Faunus across from him. “Reinald…”
“Do NOT speak to me as if you understand our plights! Because you don’t!” A dark aura was seeping from Reinald’s form and it had Alex frozen in place. Shit, no, this couldn’t be happening…!
“Reinald, calm down!” Alex tried, but it was far too late. Reinald had apparently been teetering dangerously close to the edge, and this argument sent him toppling over. The Faunus’ form fell forward and the aura seemed to consume him, hiding him from sight. Alex instinctively took a step back, hand reaching down for his gun. There was the sound of cloth ripping, but nothing could really be made out as the aura still engulfed the Stoutland Faunus. Before it entirely faded away though, Alex felt the sudden spike in the temperature and saw the fire emitting from the Faunus. Reinald’s stature had changed, now crouched in an attacking stance. His nails and teeth were now jagged and ready to tear into whatever presented itself, fire being released from his hands and wrists in short bursts. His form seemed bulkier somehow, as if he suddenly gained more muscle, which would explain the sound of cloth ripping earlier. And his eyes. They were no longer blue, but glowing red. “Reinald!” Alex tried again, but it fell on deaf ears. Reinald at this point was gone; replaced by a creature of negative emotions. A Grimm.
