same as you & your anons, i started letting go of the fandom circa 2017 i think and then followed the boys still but from afar and gradually less and less just focusing on the music and concerts but not rlly anything else around them and then towards the end mostly just following some louis stuff and then got sucked back into it for real bc my best friend got into 1d/hl during covid and yeah here i go clowning again (also same as u my mindset is so much better i've grown and i'm also so much happier in general so that helps but the way i see hl stuff and the fandom in general is so much better for me now taking only the good stuff and all)

2016-2017 does seem to be when a lot of us started drifting off 😭 makes sense because it was a VERY bleak time and pre-solo careers, and even with the solo careers starting, it was still kinda bittersweet with 1d being over. and lmaooo your friend bring you down with them kjndfkgnd. if any of my friends got into it, that definitely would have brought me back too lol. but yes exactly!! my mindset is SO much better now, because i always let even the small things affect me so much back then, and now with that distance it gave me perspective and the ability to compartmentalize more and figure out the ways of enjoying fandom without letting it affect my personal feelings to an unhealthy degree. it’s been much more fun that way.

OH AND PINTEREST BOARDS I WANNA SEE !!!!!!

okay so!!! very very very first character was mara and she's still my dearly beloved cringefail homicidal babygirl. then i was like oh i should write a short story for all of her friends. i wrote zahra's and i was like Oh. oh maybe there is something else going on here. so then it eventually turned into this huge novel idea with zahra & connor as main characters who become best friends and love each other so deeply but cannot be together. then musa came into the picture as zahra's secondary(?) love interest but he is thee great once-in-a-lifetime love for her. And Then He Dies! and so as my beloved em put it last night, the narrative becomes a choice between connor vs musa in that the choice is grief/past/commitment or different grief/regrowth/new promises.

i've loved zahra and musa from the moment they came to me and i loved connor as a concept i loved the purpose he served for the story but i didnt love Him until yesterday when i wrote something separate from the novel as a character exercise and realized he is thee white boy of all time. and it's SO funny 2 me that u mentioned the gangsey in ur ask bc. and i do really hate to say it but connor is soooo gansey coded it makes me sick. i'm quoting emma again: "the thing about connor . is he is gansey in adam’s charmingly off putting body" and thats all u need to know abt him! he's rich and he's rlly rlly smart but kinda stupid in a sheltered way and extremely charming and loving and giving and lonely. zahra is my sweet, prideful girl who just cannot catch a break. she's a little sister and a big sister and the glue that holds all the people in her life together. musa is an Eldest Son and he is a hole in the story and thats all u need to know.
