This is such a fucking stupid disingenuous way to read the ending of Rise of Skywalker
Like if you don't like the movie or the sequels fine, you're allowed to think that, but you are seriously missing the point of the ending
Just, not at all understanding what's happening
And again what is it with this idea that the ending is supposed to imply that Rey just... fucks off and stays on Tatooine forever? How do you get that? Especially since just earlier in the movie she learned she couldn't do that
It was a dumb conclusion to make 5 years ago when the movie came out and it's even dumber now when there are new projects with Rey in the works
Also this is flat out wrong
Rey didn't have a droid to keep her company on Jakku at the start of Force Awakens, by this ridiculous metric Rey is in fact better off by Rise's end
Nor is she waiting for anything
I think it's fairly clear that Rey's business on Tatooine is one of closure, in universe and from a meta perspective
She is symbolically laying the Skywalker's to rest through their lightsabers on the world which started it all, the planet the Skywalkers hail from and the first planet in Star Wars
Really the scene isn't all that much about Rey herself as it is about the wider franchise, it's bringing a close to the Skywalker saga
