The Power of Nodding (Pt. II)
After telling the students to take their seats, I noticed one kid quietly making fun of my phrasing. With his friend watching, he grabbed his seat and said, "take your seat." So, I looked at him and said, "Sit on your seat." Quickly, he folded himself and put on a playful guilty posture. His friend, Student A, began to smile at me, and I at them.
Walking around and making sure everything remains organized until dismissal, I noticed Student A fixing his eyes on me. I nodded at him. In just a little while, he started telling his classmates to quiet down, even if they were not that noisy. When they did start leaving the room, he stopped by me and happily stated, “Goodbye, Ma’am!” Naturally, I said it back.
It didn’t stop there!
While I was resting at the faculty room, he went inside to accompany some friends. After they’re through with their concern, he bid “Bye, Ma’am” to me once again! I was very much pleased.
This experience taught me that little things do matter a lot, especially from the teachers to the students. Maybe, I should nod a little more often?
From midnight of December 25th until December 31th we listen to the Top 2000 in our house, just like 10 million other Dutch people do, and only this year I find out there's a Wikipedia page that compiles all lists into one giant list. So now I am downloading my all time favourites to my hard drive, because fuck sp*tify. I'm about 1200 songs in r.n.
Here's one of my favourites that's been on the list for 14 years, and at 608 this year
I'll get you through the night...
a concept: New Year’s Day is the last song that will be performed at the end of the concert.
Last day at work
Last day at work
I had my last day at work today, which was a pretty emotional one. I did not cry, thankfully, but I might have if I would be leaving the whole company, now I can just say: see you in a month or so, cause after my holiday I will return to the office in a different department. But it was my last day with my current colleagues, who I have started to love over the course of the past few months…
