happy birthday to vladimir putin and to me^_^
The most annoying but passable music that exists, to me, is noise pop. I hate to sound like an old fart but I think I really am reaching that age where some music is just sounding like noise. It’s once in a red moon that I’ll find pop of any variety that I can stomach, much less get through without wanting immediately to exit the vicinity. In spiritual solidarity with our upcoming holiday-time, I’m going to submit to Tumblr a ditty by Sleigh Bells who caught me by surprise with their ingenuity. About a decade ago I heard a song randomly on Pandora called Comeback Kid, and I kinda liked it. It wasn’t my usual fare, but it wasn’t bad because it was well-arranged, well-sung, and it incorporated honest-to-God rock n’ roll. You spike my noise pop with a little bit of rock, suddenly I understand the appeal. This is a lady-fella duo from Brooklyn, NY and they do this electropunk shtick that goes from good ol’ fashioned noise pop nonsense to experimental digital hardcore. I dare say their music contains more structural complexity than any other music sample I’ve brought to this page. The vocal range of the lead lady singer is impressive and as nimble as the production behind the voice. Some of the sweeping beat switches and electronic/instrumental shifts within their tunes are staggeringly brilliant. I checked up on this band years after ignoring them and learned they had released an album I kinda like called Texis. This is SWEET75 from that album. Smash play above that adorable face and enjoy a mutant hybrid of bubblegum, glam metal, and industrial pop. This music is absolutely bat shit, but it’s batshit I enjoy when served hard and with plenty of volume. Enjoy and happy holidays, this one’s got that special spice I was looking for this season!
