The tender perennial Tagetes lucida (sweet mace, death flower, sweet-scented marigold, Mexican marigold) is often grown as an annual, but in the protection of the Temperate House at the Royal Botanic Garden Kew, London, it was continuing to flower into the winter. In some cultures the dried leaves and flowering tops are brewed to provide an anise-flavoured tea and the aromatic leaves can be used in Mexican recipes.

Tagetes lucida is a medicinal plant and culinary herb in Mexico and Central America, but not, as far as I know, in Italy.
