Swing Patrol @ Bestival After some good times at Big Feastival and Standon Calling recently, I felt that I got my festival fix...and then got invited to Bestival and be the captain! I'm not going to lie...I was a tad overwhelmed. 13 festivals with Swing Patrol and still wasn't sure I was ready to take this on. However, I was with 6 top class performers who gave it their all! It was great to have experience as a captain. I felt like I stepped up and delegated tasks to each of the team members knowing their strengths. The suggestions everyone had were usually better than mine so it was also essential to listen! I enjoyed being behind the scenes and discussing ideas the with production team who were amazing and very accommodating. In particular; they offered experienced DJ's to assist us by playing electro swing music. This certainly drew in the crowd! On each day, we danced in front of a packed audience and it felt awesome! In addition, I made by debut as "DJ Alex B" (I'm not sure this was meant to be on the programme but I gave it a shot anyway). I did enjoy this experience and the crowd didn't hate what I played so I'll take it as a win! Each festival I've done has varied on how much dancing is required. I think it's safe to say that the guys from Bestival requested much more dancing than normal as my team had roughly 3 hours of dancing each day (we also had a smaller team than usual). For each day; I wrote a detailed plan...and on each occasion the plan went out the window once we all realised the crowd mainly wanted us to dance on stage to very fast electro swing music! As always; we did include some classes, hand out flyers and chat to the public. However, what we all realised was that festivals do not get much more hardcore than Bestival so on each day, the bass was up high, the electro swing DJ's came along and played some "banging tunes" for us to dance like crazy to. I've got to say a massive thanks to Scottie and Stef for providing me and the team this great opportunity. This was without question one of my favourite festivals so far! I also have to thank my team mates who were all on top form and a joy to work with! We also had a chance to enjoy the festival each evening and get to know this awesome bunch! This really was an amazing experience, let's do it again sometime!
