Interview: Polar Klub

Polar Klub through my good old Nikon. More photos here.

About 7 years after our first interview with The Outta Mind, I met with Lukas, Simon, Gael, Claude and Stefan in Bern, right before their show at Kafete in Reitschule. It felt like a happy reunion, and the band played some new songs live afterwards. They sounded so good, and I can't wait to catch them live again!

Let’s catch up! I think our last interview was in Aarau with your previous band, The Outta Mind, back in... 2017?

Lukas: Shit. (laughs)

Back then, you were living in Glarus. Is that still the case today?

Lukas: Three of us live in Bern, Claude lives in Olten and Simon moved back to Glarus. He’s a farmer now (laughs) just kidding. He has a nice house somewhere in the mountains with chickens.

Simon: And a huge garden, and wood heating. It’s pretty nice.

Before Polar Klub, which you started around 2020, I remember you playing with The Outta Mind. Could you tell me about how this new project was born?

Lukas: Well, our bass player faced some problems, and eventually The Outta Mind kind of just fell apart. I actually started Polar Klub on my own. Then, I asked Claude and Simon if they wanted to join me, and it became a real band. We started playing together, and then we asked Stefan and Gael to join. We are now a full band and share the writing.

The first songs we released were a journey to discover our sound. What we are playing now is totally different from the other stuff we released. We just play one song we released live, I Don’t Dance.

I noticed a pause for Polar Klub those past couple years.

Lukas: I had some mental health issues, with anxiety and stuff, so I had to take a little break. I had to work hard as well. But it will all work out in time I guess!

What can we expect from Polar Klub in the future?

Lukas: We just want to do our stuff the way we like it in the moment. Someone brings an idea, and the others will complete it somehow. No rules! The next songs could sound totally different.
