Where do you go to escape from yourself? Where do you go to shake the monkeys off your back?
I have a confession to make
Last year i was dating a switchfam and it all ended really wrong, nedless to say I had this "i don't want to listen to Switchfoot because of the memories" stage. But i feel so much better now, expect some regular blog updating again :)
And everything will be made new again, like freedom in spring (x)
Fading West Movie; New Solo EPs?; Fall Tour Updates; Vice Verses Commentary; And more!
Hey y'all! While I was out yesterday, Switchfoot was pretty busy. Here's a recap:
Switchfoot/Hurley Takeover:
Switchfoot took over Hurley's Facebook yesterday from Oneonta, NY to answer fan questions.
Click HERE to watch the intro video-- the questions/answers are in the comments.
Benjamin, a visitor from our friends at Land of Broken Hearts, typed up a transcript of the Q&A's:
The following text is all directly posted as “Hurley” by the members of Switchfoot, including their own re-phrasings of asked questions.
Hey everyone, We’re taking over!
”Dan Evans Can Jon and the Switchfoot boys come to the UK a day early to do a gig in Swansea again and come for another surf. We promise it won’t be so cold this time!” // Man, that sounds fun! We scored fun waves with you guys over there last time.
Hey Dan, thanks for posting the first question! We are all here and stoked to talk to you guys! We have great memories of surfing in Swansea on our UK tour. We are headed back over the pond in November for the Vice Verses tour!
”Phillip Breker Do you guys bring your surf boards on tour with you??” // tim here: sometimes. depends where we are. We’re on tour far from the ocean at the moment, so no boards. But when we play Hawaii, we’ll bring a quiver!
”Bruno Apza comes to Brazil?” // We love Brazil! We’re hoping to make it down there next year. Eat some acai for me! -tim
Chris Kreuslich “What’s your favorite activity to do in San Francisco area?” We got to go surfing a couple times up there- that’s not a bad way to spend the day- jon
”Sam Lynam guys ive been a fan since back in the day but never been in england when your here! can you come more often?” // We’ll be there in November. Come say hi. -tim
Jemm Marquez “Does Jon sing for the police too? ” only when they show up at my aftershows… -jon
”Aaron Mutter You guys used to live in Virginia Beach? Did you start surfing in Virginia?” // jon and I lived there for 3 years when we were young. Yeah, started surfing there. not many waves, but we were stoked little groms! -tim
Benjamim Lucas Have you ever played in Brazil? Would you like to? Lets book it? Yes! We were there about a year ago. We loved it and hope to be back soon. –Romey
Élyse Chaîné “will you come back to Montreal or Quebec soon? by the way, i want you to know that you’re awesome!” We love Montreal! What a city. We’ve had some amazing memories up there- makes me want to learn to speak French. We’ll prolly come up to Canada later in 2012
“Kyle Ballard What song on Vice Verses is the most underrated/what song do you enjoy performing most?” // hmmm, probably a little early to say which song is underrated, since it just came out! But I’ve really been loving playing Where I Belong live. Thrive may be underrated? One of my fav’s. -tim
that was jon talking about canada, BTW … also, if you’re coming to see us this fall with Anberlin bring backpack. We’re giving backpacks to homeless kids across the nation- let these amazing kids know that they’re not alone. – jon
Allie Suzanne Henry Coke or Pepsi? Diet Coke -Romey
”Jacob Puiras: Do you think you all will be playing music as a career for the rest of your lives?” // We’ll be playing music til the day we die. Probably not as a career forever, but music is what we love. It sounds ridiculous to even call it a job or a career. We’d be doing it for free -tim
Logan Sandberg “What’s one band you really want to go on tour with, but haven’t yet?” I’ve still got my hopes set on the beatles or led zeppelin… fingers crossed- jon
“Dave Cutteridge: what does the lyric mean when you talk about “david coming back to life”?” // I think the lyric is “dead men” not “david” , but no worries, I screw up lyrics all the time too. -tim
Elizabeth Saudarg What are the guy’s favorite songs on the album and why? One of my fav songs right now from VV is THE ORIGINAL. The guitar part is really fun to play and has a real throwback 60′s vibe that I really dig. DREW
Noah Wallace “do you guys know what song you’ll play last at your final gig ever as a band?” Good question- Someday, many years from now when switchfoot plays our last set- I’m pretty sure we’ll play where I belong as a final punctuation.
stephen from Anberlin just walked in! any questions for him?
“Cameron Sparks: How do you pick the songs that end up on the CD, is it obvious to you which you like the most?… sorry to repeat… had a correction!” // It’s always a difficult process, because we always write a lot of songs. We try to look for the strongest songs that also contain a cohesion to the other songs on the album. They need to feel like they belong. -tim
Laura Escobar “Jon, what about fiction family?” – got a new one in the works… 2012 release prolly- jon
“Joel Martinez: Will you play Vice Verses from start to end as of Hello Hurricane in the tour?” // yeah, we’re definitely planning to do that at some point. Playing the entire album start to finish was a lot of fun, and I think Vice Verses would be a great album for this type of thing. -tim
Mitchel Strauss “Make a mission to south africa please!? Would dig to see you live and get some waves” I would love to go back- we’ve only been once. Would love to get a few more waves down there…
Seth Taferner Drew, what jhs pedal did you post a pic of on instagram the other day, with the tree painted on it? IT WAS a JHS Charlie Brown pedal… drew
Quincy Roach: “If you had to chose to do a cover song with either Jimmy Page or RObert Plant, which man would you guys chose?” Goooood Question… I’d have to say Jimmy Page- I’ll be waiting by the phone- jon
Kathryn Marie: “Jon, What inspired you to do the fall, winter, spring and summer EPs?” I had all these songs that wouldn’t fit on Switchfoot or Fiction Family- they felt too personal. So I decided to put em out on EP’s correlating to the seasons.
James Hutton: hey Jerome…..what is your favorite instrument to playy? I love to play the bass. The drums come a close second, but the instrument that I play the best is the keyboards. -Romey
Brown Peterson “jon are you the next ramblin jack once switchfoot is over?” I’m not sure what that means… but… Yup!
Lee Silgado “Which one of you guys has the biggest sweet tooth” I am a sucker for Ice Cream. 100%. All the Time. Always. has an Ice Cream truck that stops by from time to time. Fore that reason alone- I’m pretty sure I need to hang out there more often. – jon
Steve Fontamillas: What’re you guys going to do with that other 2 albums worth of extra material you had from the Hello Hurricane section? I heard that Vice Verses is your “exit” from that era of time? All the unreleased songs will see the light of day eventually… we are really excited about working on the soundtrack for our next project which will be a film called Fading West.
Drake Shafer Why don’t you guys come to Columbus, OH more often? We’d love to come out more often. We’ll be there in a couple days. Sept 30 at the Newport Music Hall. Hope to see you there. -Romey
David Pezzoli have any of you read “The Divine Conspiracy” by Dallas Willard? Epic record by the way. #ViceVerses Yes! Incredible insight and an amazing book. -Romey
Miracle Goetz “Jon – the VV album reminds me a lot of your earlier works but with a darker twist. Do you feel as you get older you view things or situations more cynically?” I get depressed from time to time, but I try not to get cynical about the world. I’m not afraid to sing about the darker things but a lot of times, I use music as a vehicle for hope. – jon
Tyler Johnson What is your guys favorite place to surf in san diego? We went to school at UCSD so Blacks would rank pretty high on our list, but there are still a few north county secret spots left
Allie Suzanne Henry “Surfing or Singing?” Wow! that’s too close to call- There are way too many things I’d give up before I would give up surfing or singing- jon
Kay Adams “Jon, I know you like Bob Dylan and Bono. have you ever gotten a chance to meet your heros?” Only Bono so far… but have Bob give me a call.- jon
Dawn Carroll-Militi Chad ~ I loved the drumming on Vice Verses! What’s your fave to play & where did you get the influence for the way you rocked these songs?! Thanks Dawn! I have a few favorite drummers like Questlove, Dave Grohl, and Stevie Wonder… old motown records are probably the most inspiring thing for me. -Chad
thanks so much for hanging out with us! Thanks to for letting us take over…
Bring backpacks for the homeless if you’re planning on coming out to our fall tour…
Check out this question:

Could it be...? Switchfootage...3?
Jon sat down with Christianity Today for an interview. The full 3 page interview is available HERE, but be sure to check out this:
You guys have been doing this for more than fifteen years. Are you getting tired?
Man, I love what I do. I’ve got another Fiction Family record already recorded and ready to put out. And I’ve got another 50 or 60 songs I’m going to whittle down for some form of a solo project. I’m not tired. I love what I do, and it gives me a lot of energy to be able to sing along with people that believe these songs.
New Solo Records: Confirmed.
The Switchfoot/Anberlin Fall Tour has officially kicked off, and we've got setlists and notes for every date so far:
**By the way, I spoke with Chad yesterday. Switchfoot/Anberlin are NOT alternating tour openings/closings. On the East Coast, Anberlin is closing. On the West Coast, Switchfoot is closing. With an exception to the 9/27 show, Switchfoot closed in honor of their new record.

Philly 9/26, Setlist + Review + Videos from Emma at LOBH:
Mess of Me Stars War Inside (Including drum bashing) Learning To Breathe (Because the album had been released 9/26 many years ago) Restless (Jon crawled up onto the balcony near the end and stayed until the end of Dare You To Move) Dare You To Move (Introduced by Jon telling us that their record label had dropped them the day before The Beautiful Letdown’s release. They said there were no singles on the album. Then he told everyone with a dream to never give up.) Dark Horses Your Love Is A Song This Is Your Lofe Needle In Haystack Life Meant To Live (The crowd took over for part of a verse and the chorus of this song and it was absolutely deafening – the crowd and the guys were REALLY into it.)
-Encore- Where I Belong The Sound
The crowd was amazing and afterwards we talked to Romey after the show and he also said that it was a great one and one of their favorites.
Jon said during the show (I forget at what song) that there was going to be an after show because Vice Verses was going to release the next day. We watched Twitter (And the guys, actually, we were eating in a restaurant right across the street from where they left the venue, and ran out to talk to them for a few seconds when they left.) and soon we were told to meet under the archway across from the theater.
There was a huge crowd (Jon said it was the biggest ever for an after show ) so when the guys turned up (All of them, not just Jon.) they moved us to another place. After Souvenirs, Dark Horses, and half of Vice Verses, Tim leaned up and told Jon that the cops had told them we had to stop. The crowd dispersed but it was very quite and respectful, I never even saw the cops.
