Sleepless nights for Balakong folk
Balakong residents are furious of living without water supply for the past two weeks and are anxiously waiting for Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to fulfill his promise of rationing water supply.
The Rakyat Post today visited Balakong to get feedback from the residents living there with regard to the water crisis that they are facing.
Some residents were seen fighting each other to beat the queue waiting to get water supplied by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor’s (Syabas) truck.
A resident, Mohd Akhbar Ramli, 46, said he hoped Syabas would start water rationing soon because the people were having a tough time relying on water from the truck.

Mohd Akhbar, a businessman, criticised the state government and the local authorities for being laid back and did not act fast enough to solve the problem.
“At least now they are doing something, hopefully!” he said, sarcastically.
“I operate a food business and I wash my dishes at home. Without proper water supply, I can only operate my business on alternate days.”
Cherry Ban Jun, 35, a housewife, said she was fed up by the empty promises given by Syabas and state government.
“Let us get the water supply first.”
Cherry also complained that she lived in a flat and it is an uphill task for her to carry pails of water to her unit on the fourth floor.
“I am still fortunate, but imagine the old ladies, pregnant women and even small children who have to go through this just for water.
“At times, people in my neighbourhood go through sleepless nights as we are not sure when the water truck will arrive. Sometimes, it comes at night and we are afraid that we will miss it.”
Abdul Rahman, 49, a lorry driver, said the water problem had caused anxiety among the residents living there.

“The anxiousness of waiting for the water truck and the suffering we are going through, there are no words to describe it,” he said.
“I hope this matter will be resolved soon.”
