being the sigma grindset girlboss character with the speech cadence of a haunted doll is one of the craziest character choices of all time and i am obsessed with it
syd and olivia will be on tntl tomorrow! (via the pit community post)
Hi, this is me begging you to watch Big Bear. It's a comedy (/drama) play that's about a group of friends (the Beanie Dogs) packing up after a group trip and falling apart in real time. It's great. It's fantastic. (It's on youtube!) It should be as popular as Stranger Things and Marvel combined. Closeups under the cut!
they should put syd and olivia on very important people but they dress them exactly the same and every 10 minutes they very clearly swap places like not even trying to hide it and when the host brings it up they act like they’re crazy
hello does anyone like syd and olivia
Big Bear!! (Spoiler-Free)
This is not an official review by any means, but I finally watched Patrick McDonald's play Big Bear now that it's available on YouTube. I had bought a ticket for the livestream ages ago, but totally forgot and missed my window to watch. I'm so excited that it's up for free for people to see!
I cannot stress enough how much I am continually impressed by Patrick's writing. I originally became familiar with him through Smosh and Dropout, as I'm sure many people did, but then I saw his short film I Live In Your House and I was blown away. Big Bear was much the same. In both cases, it's so evident to me that that thing people say about comedians being masters of tension is so true.
Both pieces are materpieces of navigating tension and timing, even though one is horror and one is comedy-drama, one is a short film and one is a play, one is recorded and one is live. His characters feel so grounded and real (owing both to his impeccable writing and the cast's incredible performances), even at their most dramatic. I was especially impressed by Michaela, Lou and Mykel in Big Bear, but all of the characters felt so rounded. Even the more "one-note" characters, like Annabelle and Stu, felt like genuine human beings by the end of the show, even though we the audience had only seen everyone for under two hours of their lives.
I just wanted to encourage everybody to watch it if you want to. I feel like Patrick is such an incredible writer, and he and the rest of the cast did an incredible job. His directing was wonderful as well. The blocking of all of the scenes feels so real even though it's choreographed so the audience can see. The set design and costuming, too, are so well done--truly, they communicate so much about the characters.
Go watch it!!
