i think the debate about whether or not fanfiction writers use AI in their work is so tricky, because i know that i'm one of those writers who could easily be accused. i use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation, and i'm known for being able to get work pumped out relatively fast. and unfortunately, those things are associated with using AI, which is so unfair to writers like me. i have to keep reminding myself that i've been interested in writing since at least grade 2, and have been writing actual fanfictions since i was 13, so over a decade now. i also used to roleplay on quotev before they changed their entire website, and i spent well over a decade becoming a seasoned roleplayer. there were times i would lock in and write out massive replies for 7 different roleplays in under 3 hours. and it's not that i was using AI, it's that i've spent so many years behind a keyboard and learning to type. it also helped that i grew up watching my grandmother do transcribing work, and that woman could type faster than anyone i know. i get that supporting AI is bad and yall don't wanna be giving credit to people who use AI, but i've seen too many people get accused of it just because they're actually capable of writing at higher than a third grade level (because let's be real, there are too many people that are way too comfortable posting fics that are impossible to read) (that last point does not apply to non english writers).
