“You haven’t connected a thing.”
Why are you like this. Do you get that much enjoyment out of teasing others?
Oh, come on, it’s all in good fun! But look, if I really upset anyone, I’m sorry. I never mean to make anyone miserable, and if I do, you can always tell on me to Ingrid. I’ll never hear the end of it.
Have you and Felix done... The naughty already~? ;3
Oh, that? Yeah, we h*ld h*nds. On the bed in Felix’s room, on mine in my room, and even in a private corner of the gardens one time. We’re pretty wild.
You know who’s beautiful? Read the first word again
That’s right, you are beautiful! I really appreciate your confidence.
Heya Sylvain. I'm Felix's sister-in-law so I don't really count as family but welcome! I'm not going to threaten you like the others- don't worry. I hope you two are happy!
Hey, family is family! Doesn’t hurt that you aren’t interested in threatening me, that’s a nice touch. I’ll put everything I have into making Felix happy, and I know he’ll always be there for me. That was kinda sappy, but it’s true. We’ve got no choice but to be happy! It’s fate.
I know you pride yourself in flirting, Sylvain, but what other skills do you have?
What, you haven’t heard? I’m a good-for-nothing coasting on good looks and a wealthy family to get by. Sure, I’m pretty strong and smart without putting in effort, but that’s not that impressive next to someone trying their hardest.
But don’t worry your pretty self about stuff like that! Flirting and having fun are what I’m good at, and that’s fine by me.
I didn’t kick him! I just threatened him that’s the difference. I’m actually very incapable of defending myself. Of course, if you were there I’d know you would protect me ;))
You threatened him? We’re talking about Felix still, right? I guess that settles it: you are perfectly capable of protecting yourself. Or you’re just not afraid of anything even when you probably should be, at least a little.
Anyway, it turns out I'm the one in need of protection if Felix catches me flirting with you again. He didn’t say we couldn’t go out for dinner, though! So, what do you say? Dinner and a night on the town would be fun, right?
There's a rectangular package waiting just in front of his doorstep when Sylvain steps out that morning. It's bound in plain wrapping, with a slip of parchment tucked into the ribbon. "Since it's been exactly 10 years, I thought this would be fitting. Also, come early to lecture. There's something else I want to give you." When Sylvain opens the box, there's a single left boot, almost exactly the same in make and model to the object of the frantic search, that morning ten years ago.
For one day, just one day, particularly this day, could the owl calls not wake him up so damned early? Sylvain groans, rolling over and smooshing his face into the pillow. He doesn’t want tobe awake. It’s the one day of the year he should be allowed to sleep in, belazy, and not think about anything but-
Wait. It’s that day.
Would there be…?
Maybe there’s…?
He considers the prospect for perhaps five seconds, thenthrows the covers off, grabbing up a pair of pants and throwing a shirt overhis shoulders, not bothering to fasten it. It’s a long shot, things aredifferent here, and it’s still early, but perhaps…
A slow grin that stretches over his face at the sight of thepackage outside his door, he knows what this is without even reading the note, but still, but still. He picks it up carefully, it could be aprank after all, but that’s too much of a coincidence. He pushes his doorclosed and lets it hang ajar while he reads over the note.
The tenth one. His hands shake in excitement. He’sabout to set the parchment aside when he catches there’s something else Iwant to give you. He ponders over what that could be, a perplexed littlefrown on his face, but he shakes his head and forgets all about that for now.
There’s much more important things to think aboutright now.
Sylvain tears into the package with the sameenthusiasm as Raphael at lunch, lifting the lid of the box to find his prize. Thetenth left boot. He lifts it out, and as silly as it is, his breath catchesin his throat at the sight of it. The same style from all those years ago.
He can’t contain himself any longer, boot in hand, Sylvain –still barefoot – charges out of his room and all the way down the hall, yellinghis delight and an hour far too early to consider anything like a raised voicesociable.
“YEEEEAH!” he hollers, feet slapping against the woodas he passes rooms full of just-waking-up students, boot clutched in his hand, “TENTHBOOT! I GOT IT! IT’S HAPPENING! ANY OF YOU GET A LEFT BOOT TODAY? I. DON’T. THINK.SO.”
Best. Morning. Ever.
