do you have required reading?
like any literature or books you think everyone should read at least once in their lives? ✨
OHH we talking books here tonight - this will be good! ✨
if everyone had the attention span & time for it, the correct answer for me is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.
listen. if you can get through some of his historical rants and special interests, it is soooo worth it! i have never cried so hard (literally wailing) at the end of any book. why?
being a human and being human has always been difficult; there have always been wars, poverty, disease, injustice, oppression, inequality - yet we persevered. because someone before us chose to fight, to wake up another day, to somehow earn a living, to struggle, but to keep going. to choose love in a world that seems so dark, whichever era of history or present we look into. and lord, does it seem dark today too.
but if you and me, for example, choose a small act of kindness, or an act of defiance in the face of oppression, darkness, misery; maybe it does absolutely nothing. but maybe it does at least a little something - kindles those things in another person. and then maybe another. maybe at least on a small scale. but isn't it nice to hope it does something on the grand scale too? maybe something we will never live to see. but that doesn't mean we shouldn't choose it day after day after day.
it is going to be extremely difficult? yes! let's choose it anyway!!!
thank you kindly for this question 💗
