Synthre - Heterodoxa (EP)

Avant-garde Black Metal from Finland

We don't know exactly who is behind Synthre. We are only certain about one person: multi-instrumentalist Mircea Purdea, a Romanian artist who is also behind the Exhalus project. He has since moved to Finland. While he creates a mix of avant-garde, progressive metal, and sludge with Exhalus, he chooses a different musical direction with Synthre: black metal. But beware: black metal isn't everything here, because Synthre offers much more than black metal. Avant-garde is also present, as are death metal and influences from the Middle East. The latter in particular shapes Synthre's predominantly instrumental approach in a unique way and is inspired by Assyria, an empire that existed between 2000 and 600 BC and also included Mesopotamia. This first EP contains five tracks that leave a lasting impression. In addition to the somewhat idiosyncratic mix of music, which we find unique, there are also occasional clear vocals, even from a woman. Who exactly is involved in this project remains a mystery to us for now.
