I've been thinking about this long a lot recently. Particularly the line "We pray for revolution, but we want apocalypticism". Apocalypticism is defined as a belief in an imminent end to all things on Earth. And I can attest to that sentiment. Change take effort, and years of ugly transition as mankind drags its feet into the ground. It happens with individual people as well. It seems a lot easier to just not try, and have the whole thing come to an end. There's no conflict in death, after all.
But more to the point, I think with a romantic tone about the apocalypse when I think of revolution. I don't think of the people joining together to actually rebel. I think of anarchy. I dwell too easily on a future where everyone dies. The political spectrum loses meaning as the whole country becomes a burning wasteland. Those who are left either rebuild with some sense of how to do better in the future, or they get their fascist dystopia they always wanted – until they too get the short end of the discrimination stick, and there is no one left to point the finger at. I think of Robespier's Reign of Terror against anyone who looks even remotely rich. I don't know what anyone has planned. But I feel afraid that the incoming revolution in the US, if it happens at all, will be too disorganized or (rightfully) motivated only by hatred and not a desire to bring change to the nation. The people in power have a lot to answer for. And I don't know if people will know what to do after they're gone. It is possible that someone just as bad will be flocked to to lead the masses. I am afraid of a future where nothing changes to the point that I would rather it all end instead.
