Just fresh off book 4 of Saints of Steel by T. Kingfisher - so glad i had a long weekend to indulge in barrelling through that series, it was SO fun!

Gonna ramble and be spoilery under the cut, read at your own risk.

Of course book 4 is the only one to end on a real cliffhanger X'D Thankfully it looks like there is indeed a book 5 in the works, potentially to release, or at least have more information released this year.

Good for me, since of course we ended off on a bit of a cliffhanger. Don't mind me, I'll just be sitting here chanting "Demon-paladin roadtrip, demon-paladin roadtrip, DEMON-PALADIN ROADTRIP" with increasing excitement. I admit I got rather fond of Wisdom considering the circumstances and relatively short screen time, and I am VERY curious about what's going on with Judith. I sincerely doubt she's human, or just human, or whatever, and I am looking forward to finding out the particulars for sure (and I might have more ideas by the time the book comes out after having read more books set in this universe - I hadn't realized the clocktaur wars and swordheart were in the same setting, whoops). Also low-key hoping for a f/f relationship , as we have only gotten m/f and m/m so far and I'd love to see a complete set, as it were :P Also down for a f/??? relationship, depending on how this roadtrip goes X'D

Also hoping maybe we cross paths with Piper and Galen in their hunt regarding the Saint of Steels death - it seems very likely these two storylines will have something to do with each other, and while I was prepared to have the Saint's death be a mystery before Piper got a glimpse of His death, I am certainly not so sanguine after.

Also!! Sweet sweet vindication getting it straight from the Dreaming Gods mouth that the only reason Shane wasn't snapped up by him from the get-go was because the Saint called dibs. I freaking knew it!! Pfft, and I really appreciate Marguerite just yoinking their spy network/records keeping system in professional disgust. Delightful, both for its own sake, and for giving her something to do X'D

Ahhh, very fun series! I admit, I was a tad trepidatious when I saw it was in the authors Romance section (I admittedly came largely on the question of what do you do when your god dies, and didn't consider much beyond that lol) but thankfully it was very much to my taste. The romance was the B plot in behind the real plot, just the way I like it - I find romance tiresome if its always in my face, I need to come at it sideways to really enjoy it. And the characters are... hmm, practical? Real? Believable? Something like that - the relationships very much felt like people meeting at the right moment and making it work, not soulmates or characters being mushed together just for the sake of it being a romance book.

I will day, it might not be to everyone's taste - they do say straight up several times Paladin's are all about their guilt trips, and they aren't wrong. And to be honest most of their partners aren't doing so hot in the self-esteem area either ^^; Marguerite is the only one I'd say doesn't have those issues (she has other problems, and regarding self-esteem Shane has enough for both of them, poor man - intrusive thoughts are not a good time for anyone, let alone one that's had their soul ripped almost in two). I'm a sucker for those kind of rough edges and pining though, so.

But yeah I really enjoyed this series, and once I've digested and picked myself up off the floor I am very looking forward to reading the other books set in this universe (I mean, they were already on my radar, but now I'm rather more excited since I know and enjoyed the setting).

Because I'm currently struggling to write anything (where's the time? where's my focus?), I really enjoyed this little quote in the book I was reading about art and patience:

Fantasy Romance Recommendations Pt.1

I'm a big fan of Fantasy Romance books but I've noticed that a lot of recommendations lists have the same books over and over again. Nothing against Sarah J Maas, Jennifer Armentrout and Holly Black, but I have read their books already and I'm looking for new suggestions. And thus, I decided to make my own little list (with help from @housebaylor and @shirewalker). Maybe it will help someone somewhere. XD ***Some of the books listed here are not Romance novels officially but all have romance and have HFN or HEA endings Fantasy Romances The Fallen Empire Trilogy by Grace Draven The Kraelian Empire has ruled with an iron fist for centuries, its grip unyielding until the power of three women, and the men devoted to them, break it.

The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden Vasya Petrovna is a young woman gifted with the Sight which allows her to see spirits who inhabits the world. The arrival of Christianity spells trouble for her and the world of the spirits at large. This story has her rebel against her fate as a woman in medieval Russia, go on a great adventure and meet amazing characters.  One of my favourite.

our system collectively LOVES this series. we've been reading it since we got our grubby little hands on the first book from the local library.

we read What Stalks the Deep, recently, if you've noticed someone in the system excitedly posting about it.

I came to exist in the process of reading the book.

I love my source.

I love Gallacia, even though even in my source memories it was, to put it lightly, a shithole. I wish I knew how to make myself livrit in this reality, just to taste how terrible it is.

I miss Hob, a lot. Who wouldn't miss their horse?

I miss Angus, too. He's a good man, and an even better friend.

Denton, Ingold, Mrs. Potter... I doubt I'll ever find them as sourcemates, given how niche the story is, but if I do - well, I suppose I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

We got the books for christmas, and I excitedly highlighted my favorite quotes from What Stalks the Deep, and I'm going to reread the first two books once we finish rereading The Salt Grows Heavy.
