If Jin had a human body, do you think he and Kira would be endgame? I’m honestly more obsessed with their friendship than Kira’s romance with the actual male lead, whose name I totally forgot.

So I stayed up late to finish reading book 6 of "Aileen Travers series", "Nightfall's Prophet" and wow, this was such a good book
I honestly thought this would be the last book in the series because the author has 4 series she writes on, so I was like "ok, we're on book 6 now, I bet she's going to wrap things up and call it a day because I bet it's exhausting juggling 4 different book series right?"
wrong. this book is just getting started.
(book 1 blurb)
Life as Aileen knew it ended when she woke up in a morgue sporting a new set of fangs after a wild night out. Now as a courier for the supernatural world, she balances figuring out this whole vampire thing with making enough to support her ice cream habit. When a job goes disastrously awry and ends with a body on the ground, Aileen finds herself in over her head as she draws the attention of a powerful creature intent on her death. Aileen will need to separate her allies from her enemies before it’s too late. To survive, she’ll work with a being she swore to avoid at all costs—a powerful vampire who may hold the key to her survival. Or the flame from which her world burns.
This series has the fae, vampires, werewolves, witches, demons etc.. the supernatural world is hidden from mortals but living side by side next to them. Aileen must figure out this new world as she slowly adapts to life as a newly made vampire after her death, and she doesn't know who to trust.
Each book builds upon the previous in world building and character growth, and it leaves you wanting to find out more in each book as the stakes are raised. The books do feature romance and sex scenes, but they're not the focus of the series as much as the actual story (I personally kinda wish the author would make them smutty and add even more romance in between the story but that's just me)
In this latest book, Aileen is being targeted by a powerful vampire, but who? The obvious answer is the vampire with a vendetta against her Sire, but she begins to have ominous dreams of an ancient vampire as rumors grow that he has returned.
The plot is really good and has you devouring the pages to find out what the hell is happening (in a good way), while also you savor the interactions between Aileen and her new found family. And speaking of family, Aileen learns world shattering secrets about her own human family that she's been hiding her vampire nature from. She desperately wants them to continue thinking she's still human, however that may pale in comparison to what unfolds for them.
These books keep getting better and I can't wait for the next book in this growing series.
Nightfall's Prophet - 5/5
ya girl’s been a silent booktok bystander since day 0 so hear me out rq
urban fantasy
Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
(book 1 blurb)
Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up magical problems. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta’s magic circles. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she’s way our of her league—but she wouldn’t want it any other way…
the modern world had seen an apocalypse, just not the one they were expecting. Magic came back to the world, however each magic wave knocks out technology and vice versa. Lots of people died in the apocalypse, and now in the new world there’s wtiches, wizards, shapeshifters, and old gods returned.
the series starts out slow, run of the mill urban fantasy with female MC that kicks ass, but it picks up and gets really good. Kindle books are all mostly cheap and spans 10 books in the main series with side books and series that branch off.
Aileen Travers series by T.A. White

TA White is really good at writing mostly the same thing with variations, this is another series where loner tough girl finds herself in over her head with beings more powerful than her while she tries to figure out her past and who she really is, BUT she does this well and with enough variety that you will willingly read another series with these tropes.
This series has the fae, vampires, werewolves, witches, demons etc.. the supernatural world is hidden from mortals but living side by side next to them. I have to be honest, this has a trope that made me go absolutely feral when vampire called his LI his heart/his beating heart.. LIKE i was basically this meme
sci fi books
i was talking to a mutual and decided to make a book recommendation list:
Firebird Chronicles by T.A. White
book 1 blurb:
Kira Forrest is a survivor. She’s risen above the pain of her beginnings to become a war hero only to leave it all behind in the pursuit of a simple life. Now a salvager, she makes a living sifting through the wreckage of dead alien ships from a war that nearly brought humanity to its knees. After her ship takes damage, she’s forced to re-route to a space station where her past and present collide with dangerous consequences. Kira’s existence holds the key to a faltering peace treaty with the Tuann—a technologically advanced alien race who dislikes and distrusts all humans. Winning her freedom should be easy, but a powerful and relentless Tuann warrior stands in her way. Deceiving him seems impossible, especially when he strays dangerously close to secrets she struggles to hide. Can Kira reconcile the pain of her past with the possibilities of her future? The fate of two races depends on her success.
it’s a sci fi series, her best friend in the whole wide universe is that floating robot AI that is more than just AI, she’s currently a salvager but she was a hero and a force to be reckoned with in the alien wars 9 years ago. and now she’s being pulled back into intergalactic intrigue and looming wars, all the while trying to figure out her mysterious past.
Confluence series by Jennifer Foehner Wells
(book 1 blurb)
Dr. Jane Holloway is a language savant, living a staid academic life, studying dead languages. But when NASA offers her a spot on a team that will be exploring a derelict alien ship found decades before in the asteroid belt, she shoves aside her discomfort to go on an adventure.
Except the ship is far from derelict.
Or unoccupied.
What she assumed would be more of an archeological dig, turns into a fight for her life and the lives of her teammates as the mission devolves into chaos.
And all along Jane is receiving strange psychic transmissions that she can’t explain, can’t quite believe are real, and can’t reveal to her team, for fear they’ll assume she’s gone insane.
Jane fights the growing doubts of her colleagues as she attempts to decipher what the alien voice wants from her. As the crew gets cut off from their escape route, Jane must decide if she can trust the alien’s help to survive.
These two series are really, really good, and I highly recommend them. They’re also indie authors and the kindle books are really super cheap. So really you have no excuse not to get them. Bonus points if you can afford the physical books from bookshop.org so you can support your local book shop.
idk what to do. i finished these 2 books in 2 days and the 2nd book was just published in February so i’ll probably have to wait a while for book 3.
please please please read these books.
they’re from an indie author available on kindle for like $3.

Botanical Mischief (The Cosmic Dryad Series Book 1) - T.A. White
book blurb:
Self-confessed hermit. Plant lover. And enthusiastic introvert, Pityrodia Augustensis, Gus, for short, knows three things. People, no matter their species—human, Haldeel, or Tuann—are confusing. She has forty three siblings and every single one is as baffling as they are violent. And lastly, the dead man lying on her doorstep is going to upend her hard earned peace and quiet. When that dead man turns out to be very much alive and not dead at all, Gus finds herself drawn into a scheme with galactic implications. Pursued from one end of the space station, Titan, to the next, Gus is forced to abandon the comfort of her sanctuary in hopes of uncovering the mastermind of a plot that threatens her peaceful existence. The consequences should she fail are being named the scapegoat for someone else’s crimes—and, well, death. No pressure then. Just another day on Titan. Haven to pirate clans and criminal enterprises alike.
like it's in the same universe as her "Firebird Chronicles" but is supposed to be a stand alone story tangentially connected to the first series with guest appearances
and it's interesting for sure as you learn about Gus, her situation, and the life she carved out for herself, also who doesn't love plant powers
i quit reading the "Firebird Chronicles" after book 4?? i think?? because while the world building and politics is interesting the main character Kira gets annoying after 4 books of "DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DOOOOOO!!!!" and acts like she's 19 or something idk even though she's a grown ass adult
now after reading this new book i might go back to read book 5 and 6 just to catch up and see how it connects, but then there's the main character Kira 🫴
which is a shame because the books had started out so good
this particular book however had some good ideas tbh but it really needed to be a bigger book and it never digs into the cool ideas or sci-fi elements like what life on Titan is like. it's kind of hand waved away
like this all would be so good if it were better kind of dealie
Gus’ short story has begun
Chapter One Part One “That definitely wasn’t there the last time I was here,” Gus muttered, stopping short at the sight of what was waiting
