Hey!!! I’m currently writing a tabaxi character and was wondering if I could get some expert advice on some of their more feline habits from a tabaxi themself! (/nf)
I was wondering how much time tabaxis spend acting humanlike versus catlike, or how their habits could look as a blend of the two, if you wouldn’t mind answering!
I can try my best to give some advice yeah! I'm mainly a tabaxikin in terms of how they are portrayed in D&D, so I do apologize if some of this is inaccurate to non D&D tabaxi.
we typically act a blend of humanlike and catlike, with a lean towards humanlike due to having been raised largely in societies where species can interact, with that including species like humans.
We're bipedial, yes but still move with catlike quality, high jumps, sometimes running on all fours if needed for extra mobility and speed (think in D&D terms, two feet for moving regularly and in normal combat movements, briefly using all fours for what would count as a dash action),
we are considered a humanoid race, too, so we have our paws with 'fingers' positioned that are able to hold things like people can with thumbs
we are particularly good at climbing and weaving around things when moving, and can jump well too (using all fours for momentum here can be helpful too, just like in running), so we have better dexterity in general. Size depends on the type of cat, so the leopard, tiger, and jaguar tabaxi are usually notably bigger than housecat tabaxi.
We bathe normally, like most humans, but adventurer tabaxi will groom themselves like cats in a pinch should actual bathing be unavailable for days.
We typically are able to meow and purr, and big cat tabaxi can often make noises like roaring unless their type of big cat is incapable, but we can also speak normally ofc.
we have good night vision, and do better in late night watches than humans do, but we need the same amount of sleep for a long rest.
