You guys there’s this channel on youtube called tabieats and it’s this gay couple living in japan and they try a billion different convenience store items and street food and vending machines as a kind of “what to do and eat when you come to japan” thing and their videos fill me with so much light and love bc they’re so kind to each other. they’ve been together for 17 years and u can tell they treasure each other

satoshi’s parents don’t accept him still but shinichi’s elderly mom is in their videos sometimes and visits and cooks with them and it makes my whole heart soft

The only thing I would add is a bowl of Zippy's chili. Maybe it isn't essential in the same way the other things on the list are, but it's a cultural touchstone every Oahu resident is familiar with. If Liliha Bakery's Coco Puffs are on the list, Zippy's chili should be, too.
