Tabletop Help [ The Dishonored Tabletop game] #1
for @draxen1123
I have been playing for a good couple months and have a decent grasp of the system mechanically, so here is my take:
1. How hard is success at different tasks with its dice system?
With the 2d20 system what you do is add up the number of the skill and style you are using and then you must roll that number or below it. The lower you roll the better, with a 1 being a critical success counting as 2 successes and rolling a 20 counting as a complication. So right now, say my character wanted to punch some one. She would add up her fight and her forcefully which is equal to 11 and try to roll under that. So, I would say its actually a good mix, it does not feel like you are failing all the time. You will have your winning and losing streaks of course but its not too bad. Considering most tasks normally only take 1 success to do, the 2d20 system gives you 2 chances as getting 1 success. All of that and adding in how you are able to use Momentum and Void points, Success can be trying at times, but does not make the game unenjoyable.
2. How lethal is combat and exploration?
It honestly depends. The system doesn’t necessarily have HP, it has something called a stress track. The amount to stress you have is based purely on your survive skill. So players (Not counting bonuses you gain from Armor) can have no less then 4 stress and no more than 8. For most adversaries the book has, the same in true. Weapons are another factor, so depending on when that adversary or your player had, combat can go much faster. My party is made up of a Guide with a wolfhound companion, an Assassin and a Miscreant. My Miscreant does 2 stress per hit because she uses knuckle-dusters [with a potential to do more with abilities like Fight Dirty] while Our Guide does 3 stress as he uses a sword. The lethality of combat mostly depends on who you are fighting, with you are using to fight and who is hitting more often. Its really different from D&D where you have a ton of HP at higher levels, because with this system no matter what “level” you are [This system does not really have a leveling system] you can be killed. As for Exploration, I really feel like that is GM dependent. My GM has opted for narrative type game, lots of interaction and combat. Going from place to place has its dangers and that can be heightened with GM’s Chaos. Exploration, itself is not really all the lethal but that can change depending on who you interact with and get on the bad side of.
3. How hard is it to use the truth system the game has?
For stuff like personal truths and truths like “Blinded” or “Stunned”, I do not mind them at all. The personal truths really help you to create your character and have them have characteristics about them. Truths like “Blinded” are your status effects, all fine and dandy. HOWEVER, My party and I have really have not used the create a truth feature for momentum. It just feels really weird to use and are unsure of the limits of it as the book does not explain it all that well.
