There’s probably something to be said about how every Bajoran we see in Starfleet other than Shaxs struggles to fit into the organization in some way.

Sito is top of her class until she gets in trouble for essentially trying to help her friends. Yes she fell for Nick’s gaslighting but for someone from a demonstrably extremely communal “ride or die for your group” culture, of course she was going to try to help them? And then the moment someone shows faith in her and she can stop beating herself up she’s killed.

Celes has crippling self esteem issues and alway thinks she’s doing something wrong. She can’t be much younger than Ro or Leeta or Kira. She grew up under a brutal occupation with no formal education. But the “best of the best” starfleet attitude kinda treats her like our modern public schools treat neurodivergent kids and it really eats at her self worth until Janeway gives her some personal time and attention.

We don’t see as much of Tabor on Voyager, he seems to be adjusting fine, that is until their doctor is ok with using Cardassian Doctor Mengela for research. Sometimes yippe let’s all pool scientific and medical resources don’t fly with everyone.

The big one. Ro Laren. The occupation again. Of course she doesn’t like authority. Of course she doesn’t like hierarchies. Of course she doesn’t like being asked to remove a cultural effect. Of course she will make sure you get her damn name right. But she still tries to power through it anyway, still tries to make Picard proud of her.

And then Starfleet is incompatible with her personal morality and she just can’t continue. She has to do what she believes in.

And finally, Kira Nerys.

The reasons why things are difficult for her in the time she’s wearing a Starfleet uniform and acting as a Starfleet officer are unrelated to Starfleet, that’s just a mechanism. But Bajor’s going to join the Federation eventually, and in the novels does (DS9: Unity). Nana Visitor herself has said that Kira in Starfleet would be the perfect dramatic challenge for her. She already had issues being part of “the system” for her own planet’s government, having to play ball with Starfleet as Starfleet? Daunting, to say the least.

I don’t remember her name but there’s a Bajoran officer who joins the USS Discovery crew in the 32nd century, and she seems to be handling just fine, so there is progress… eventually.

That Shaxs is able to fit in just fine is honestly quite unusual.

SOCIETY — 134/262 — Encampments

In the Middle Ages, various groups of soldiers, bandits, guards, or lone warriors roamed the lands, often changing their place of residence. They lived in makeshift buildings, shelters, or tents erected around a central fire. Sometimes they stayed in one camp for several days, sometimes only for one night before moving again. Key factors for choosing a suitable campsite included access to water, food, fodder, and wood. Camps were rarely set up in villages or near castles. Only the retinues of lords and nobility stayed there. During wars or while fleeing, they camped under the open sky, as there was no time to build or dismantle a camp. The lordly armies camped at places where the summoned national militia, reinforcements, or allies gradually gathered. The longest encampments (sometimes lasting several months) occurred during the siege of fortresses or on riverbanks, where an enemy army waited on the other side. Tents were intentionally set up close to each other for security (like walls). The largest, in the centre of the camp, was the commander's, and the tents nearby served nobles and officers. Simple shelters for soldiers and horses surrounded these. The army could camp separately in several locations. Larger camps often included a field chapel, a place for treating the wounded, or an improvised brothel. Long-term camping was more challenging due to the need for supplies, which were always provided by administrators of nearby affiliated townships. If the army was on enemy territory, foraging units were sent out to find food and wood. If supplies were insufficient, they had to move or abandon the campaign. It was difficult to maintain adequate hygiene and morale in the camp. Soldiers were threatened by epidemics, mutual quarrels, and fights. Disputes were strictly judged to maintain order.

— The Hussite settlement that became the town of Tábor grew out of the same kind of temporary encampments that armies and wandering bands used throughout the Middle Ages. In early 1420, a small group of radical Hussite preachers and soldiers left the surrounding countryside seeking a defensible place to establish as their own. It is said a group led by a priest called Vanček and a figure known as Hromada, the young preacher Petr Hromádka from Jistebnice, gathered followers in and took the nearby town of Ústí by surprise during Carnival time. They soon sought a more permanent camp on a nearby rocky hill known as Hradiště, where they founded a new settlement on 21 February 1420. The site was chosen for its natural defensibility, and as more supporters arrived it grew rapidly into a fortified community.

The settlement soon took on the name Tábor, after the biblical Mount Tabor, and became the central stronghold of the radical wing of the Hussite movement — Taborites. It soon became more than a temporary encampment as its inhabitants pooled their goods into a shared treasury, abandoned traditional taxes and interest, and sought to organize themselves as a community of equals in preparation for what they believed were the final days before Christ’s return.

Although later tradition often credited Jan Žižka with the founding of Tábor, historians emphasize that Hromádka and his companions were the original organizers who invited Žižka’s support, who was at Plzeň at the time, after the settlement was established. Tábor quickly became a fortress, and a base of operations for the Taborites.

So one headcanon I have in regards to Cyrus Vuundir.

His parents used a surrogate to give birth to him.

With the way they are: only carrying about their standing, and basically don’t show genuine care towards Cyrus. I legit wouldn’t be surprised that they payed someone using in vitro. (Star Wars Catalyst does says that is a thing in universe)

Now, I’m not saying that his parents couldn’t have been as uncaring if his mom did carry him through pregnancy….but with the vanity they are shown to have, I really this it’s likely she would have thought that carrying a baby would “ruin her image”
