fuck all i have for ted talks is some mental bulletpoints that i repeat over and over again and hope that whoever is listening gets bored or adds something before i run out of bullets. i’m only good at infodumping in theory in practice i am absolutely terrible at it
uhhhh
(break because long [no actual ted talk tho sorry])
if i had a week or so to prepare i would do one of these or something connecting them
the unnecessary hate on spiders
the unnecessary hate on people who don’t hate spiders (ties heavily into the first point)
uhhhh
the growing popularity of the concept of “nonchalance” and how it is ruining middle school society (ties into the first and second points)
the use of various mental disabilities as insults (particularly dyslexia, autism, and schizophrenia as those are the ones i hear used most frequently irl)
the euphemism treadmill and how it is making it harder to solve the problems it renames
the over reliance of modern society on generative ai
the normalization of bullying in schools and society in general (ties into pretty much everything else)
and then these are things that i would do a general infodump on if i could from coherent thoughts about them fast enough to talk about in casual conversation (or, i realized that by ted talk, the list did not mean go to a TEDx conference with a presentation to present to a large group of people, but just a large infodump with little breaks, often compared to a ted talk due to the nature of such a speech.)
the degree to which snw fucks up spock and chapel’s characters and how the overall show is a giant polished turd
the similarities between starfleet and the navy (especially in the naming of ships and ship classes)
how fucking awesome (and horrifying) the mongolian empire was
the fall of Constantinople and the byzantine empire
the split of the roman empire and how the two sides diverged over time
russian town names
the IXS enterprise and the mathematics behind how it might actually work
tachyons (idfk i just love tachyons)
language families and how languages are related to each other
Tachyons are a hypothetical particle that can travel faster than the speed of light, which is currently thought to be impossible.
In Einstein’s theory of relativity, causality means that an effect cannot occur from a cause that is not in the past of that event. If tachyons existed, they would break this rule.
Einstein’s special relativity states that nothing can start out slower than the speed of light, and then speed up to cross that barrier. The loophole with tachyons is that they are hypothesized to start out already being faster than the speed of light, meaning that they never had to speed up to reach this pace.
If ever found to exist, these particles could potentially be the answer to time-travel. So if you’ve heard of things like the Grandfather Paradox, these might be the potential side effects of tachyons. (If you haven’t heard of it, the Grandfather Paradox is essentially where you go back in time to kill your grandfather, but then he could no longer go on to give birth to your parents, who give birth to you, the one who kills your grandfather.)
This theme lets any Gumroad creator showcase their products on their static site. Or it can serve as a basis to create product pages for people who already use Jekyll. The documentation is quite complete by now, although far from perfect. I am committed to maintain and improve it along the way.
