Makoto couldn’t remember a time when he cried like this. Maybe back when Haru collapsed by the creek trying to get their classmate’s scarf. But that was nowhere near severity of the current situation.
Makoto had been pacing and sitting in the waiting room just outside the ER’s doors for hours. Although he had lost track of time so he honestly didn’t know how long he’d been waiting. And he didn’t care. Despite all the doctors that told him that it would be more than a few hours to do a complete diagnosis on his best friend and that he should go home and get some rest, the brunet just couldn’t. He needed to see his best friend awake for his own sake. Or at least hear that he was going to be okay.
He didn’t sleep. All night, he stayed awake in the quiet hospital after some pleading and teary eyes. It didn’t matter either way though. Makoto knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep.
The swimmer’s body was shaking by the time anyone approached him. Eyes red and aching from being awake for so long blinked wearily at the man in the white coat. The man’s voice was too loud and almost hurt Makoto’s head as he spoke. “Tachibana-san, I have some good news and some bad... Nanase-san is alive and all of his vitals are back to normal, but there was some complications after the accident...”
Tears welled up at the end of the explantion, Makoto’s stomach doing flips and his body feeling very very weak all of a sudden. No, please don’t tell me this. No.
