And you know I was thinking about how garçon is boy in French, and here in Brazil during century 18 and/or 19 (I'm not sure) it was very common to people talk in French. Not everyone, but it was like a fancy thing to do. So people would go in restaurants and those type of places and speak in French.

I wonder if that is the reason garçom means waiter... people were in a restaurant and would call the boy working there garçon bc of French but then it became a word in Portuguese.

But I believe I'm talking bullshit here.

You know, you may be right because sometimes that is indeed what happens when people merge languages for a bit. I mean I'm no liguinist (or whatever) but that does sound correct in my book.
