The Dangerous Side of Survival Television.
The Dangerous Side of Survival Television.
At one time I was one of those guys that had to watch all the survival shows that were put on television. Survivorman, Dual Survival, and the one with the British guy Bear something or rather. I know his last name but I never felt that the show had a whole lot of merit beings that most of us would never find ourselves skydiving over Africa, or squeezing water from elephant dung. Survivorman is about the only survival show I still watch as the situations that are presented could be something that we can find ourselves in.
The point of my post is that TV guide has just done a story titled "The Dangerous Side of Survival TV." Discovery channel apparently begged them not to run the show as it could lead to a loss of ratings. Cody Lundin has been very vocal about how during the taping of his show Dual Survival the producer and him kept banging heads, "They asked me many, many times to do stupid s--t that I refused to do." Cody said in the link to the article by TV guide.

I am just passing on this information. I do feel that these shows have some merit when it comes to basic survival skills but putting yourself in even more danger when in a survival situation doesn't make a lot of sense. Sticking to the basics and not taking unnecessary risks is the best way to get out of a bad situation. Many times in these shows they take some horrible risks that usually work out but if they didn't wouldn't they just edit it out?
Give the TV guide article a read and then post anything I may have left out.
