I've currently been watching Isekai Cheat Magician and you know what if the anime was all about Rin and her sword swinging gf Myura, (with the occasional showing up of Lemiya and Anastasia) going on adventures together, I would probably enjoy it a lot better than just having Taichi be op and be the kind of protagonist I hate
DUDE SAME THO!
Like, Taichi embodies so much of what I hate about so many anime protags, especially Isekai ones. He’s overpowered for no reason, he’s overconfident because of his op-ness, he gets all the ladies for literally no reason, he gets all the development, all the cool shit, an amazing female character had to die for his sake… It’s just boring, bland, stupid, unoriginal, I hate it.
Meanwhile, Rin is over here forming actual bonds with people, she’s overpowered because she’s smart, her op-ness makes her arrogant and overconfident in specific situations, and she’s got a fun design. She’s actually having fun when she’s training with Myura, and Myura is learning just as much from Rin as Rin is from her. Rin is just as much of a peacekeeper as Taichi, even if she knows that death may be inevitable. Rin is just more interesting as a character than Taichi. There aren’t any stakes when Taichi’s doing something because he’ll just ‘Cheat’ his way out of it. Rin isn’t so much more powerful than everyone else that she’s untouchable, but she’s more powerful enough to warrant an actual powerful enemy.
But since this is the isekai genre, and isekai anime is generally a male power fantasy, Rin has to be tied down to Taichi by a ‘childhood crush’ despite her and Myura having way more chemistry with each other. Myura has to have a growing crush on Taichi despite having way more chemistry with both her mentor Lemiya and her student Rin. We get Taichi as the protag, and one of the Best Girls had to die for Taichi’s freaking development. If it was just Rin and Myura, fighting threats and stopping civil wars, and stuff, it would be awesome. Instead, we got this.
I’ve got nothing against power fantasies, but fuck do I hate being fed the exact same one over and over again.

Born in a mountainous region of Japan and the oldest brother to a family of six. While living up in the mountain, he dedicated most of his time at the family’s forge where he worked hours on mending metal to various tools and important items. His work fueled his passion as a smith and helped raise money for his family. Though a soft speaker, Taichi has a natural 'big brotherly’ instinct and will take care of anyone whenever they’re in need. Underneath his tough build is a soft heart who’ll fight to protect his fellow students regardless of the situation.
