In just one week, the NFL will kick off its 99th season - wow! The American Professional Football Association was formed in 1920 (and renamed the National Football League in 1922) with 14 teams. Only 2 of those teams still play today - the Decatur Staleys (now the Chicago Bears) and the Chicago Cardinals (now the Arizona Cardinals). But they are not the oldest franchises! Look no further than the Green Bay Packers, who did not join the NFL until 1921, but were founded in 1919.
A backyard, park, or parking-lot tailgate is a fun way to enjoy football with family and friends. But you have to plan ahead for the win! Here are some great tips I came across recently:
* Focus on finger foods - whether at home or away, portable food that is easy to eat tops the list.
* Cook ahead of time - whenever possible prep or cook ahead of time to make warming up and serving food easier. In fact, pack the night before for a better shot at your favorite spot!
* Frozen water bottles start the day off keeping food cool and then convert to a refreshing drink. Magic!
* Don’t forget chairs - not everyone can fit in the car for a seat while eating, and it’s best if no-one sits on your cooler.
* You will feel smart if you bring: a first-aid kit, hand sanitizer, paper towels, a trash bag, a table cloth, a phone charger, sunblock, and extra ice.
If you have plans to catch a SF 49ers game at Levi’s Stadium this season, make sure you check their rules ahead of time. Tailgating is permitted in specified areas with some guidelines.
