We told our therapist we’re plural and it was awesome

We sent my therapist—who is a gay, polyamorous, trans man— our document we’ve been keeping track of our system dynamics on because “it’s a lot and I don’t think we’ll get it all in one session” and also we didn’t want to forget anything.

After rehashing it all together, we told him the faces wanted 1) to practice intentional fronting by having only one of us focus in therapy at a time (he said “a lot easier when you assign one person to take all notes instead of trying to make something of everyone taking only some notes, right?”)

2) try intentionally fronting only one or two of us at at time with safe people in safe places—especially the littles

This will hopefully help with internalizing and remembering things from therapy, being able to control who’s fronting in conflict, and feel less head pressure from none of us ever sHUTTING THE FUCK UP + having no rhyme or reason to how one or more of us influence the body/outer world relationships. It can be really hard to focus sometimes because everyone is so close to the front when Noah or Dylan is trying to be in control and they’re louder than everyone else outside the system.

We don’t want to live 24/7 out as plural or try to have everyone address/interact with every headmate—in fact I think that would be disregulating for the system—but we need to start letting each of us front entirely for longer periods of time so the body can build that familiarity and muscle memory of letting someone out and pulling them back in without it being a response to trauma.

Fortunately, my therapist is very plural experienced and wasn’t very surprised when we told him either lol. The faces feel confident and accepted.

Finished sketch work of our system!! I (Dylan) am gonna do full color and values and all that for the Family Portrait™️ BUT when I’m more low effort these will be the default colors for each of us! We are all really pleased with the colors we chose. 🥰❤️💜🩵💙💖🧡💚

I’m trying to learn how to have more influence over who is fronting/recognizing when someone needs to front and I think these associated colors might help. 🤗
