wanted to draw my oc’s imani, bonnie, morgan and talei attending a convention! can you guess who they’re cosplaying?
it’s 2008 so i looked at convention pics from around that time c:
For those who don’t know, I have a couple of OC’s! From left to right we have Imani, Bonnie, Morgan and Talei, all of whom are best friends and live in a world where the year is 2008. They’re all nerds and really weird, check out my previous posts for more info about them c:
I didn’t started going to conventions until 2013 myself but over the years, I’ve learned to love cosplay! Sometimes I look back on older convention pictures and take a look at cosplays from then. Not that 2008 is so long ago, but there is a big difference in cosplay/convention culture from then and now.
After looking at some pics from 2008, I wanted to draw my OC’s all dressed up at a convention cosplaying some of their favourite characters! Imani, who loves anime, chose Winry from Full Metal Alchemist (one of her favourite anime’s), Bonnie, a more casual anime watcher, is Sasuke from Naruto (she deeply relates to him), Morgan who loves theater chose Glinda from Wicked (specifically the stage musical which is why the dress is blue) and our gamer Talei chose Kairi from Kingdom Hearts!
I wanted to pick media for them to cosplay around the 2008 time period, at least what was popular and had online fandoms. Obviously some of these things have been around before 2008, but doing some research, I found these things in particular were very popular.
Also, they all definitely sewed and created their cosplays! As someone who mostly cosplays simple characters and buys things instead of sewing, I am very lucky cus even when I first started, it was so hard to find anything so a lot of people sewed their fits. Obviously not saying there is anything wrong with buying cosplays, absolutely not, just pointing out the fact that there’s a reason their costumes here aren’t exactly perfect.
Also, they’re not wearing wigs! Cus, even in 2013, I struggled finding wigs a lot of the time and some convention pics from 2008 had a lot of people not wearing wigs. Again, not saying you have to nowadays either, just pointing it out c:
sorry for the inactivity!! im doing a lineup of all my ocs and its... taking a while, i have some more actual art in the works but this project is time consuming

Text; Talei, uses she/her pronouns. She is 16 years old, a trans girl and a lesbian. She is Fijian American, living in the USA.
She likes video games, sitcoms, virtual pets, eating cereal, Saturday morning cartoons, Summer, her Tamagotchi, I’d do game OST, seashells, dolls and sugary foods.
She dislikes bitter foods, coffee, being too busy, camping, wet socks and phone calls.
Talei is an easy-going, mellow, calm girl who loves playing video games all day, taking care of her virtual pets, collecting dolls and being obsessed with cartoons and sitcoms.
She always brings her Nintendo DS and Tamagotchi with her anywhere she goes. Talei likes to live life focusing on fun and takes things slow, living with peace, calmness and serenity.
She is non verbal and the glue that sticks her friend group together. As long as Talei has her video games and her friends are happy, she’s happy too. She aims to guide herself through life with minimal stress and worry.

Talei was one of my top ten favorite roleplaying ocs. Since her character was born into the group she was easier to get interactions for. But just like my other ocs she wasn’t popular in the grand scheme of things and didn’t really have any ships or people scrambling to interact with her in the long term. She did eventually get a mate and cubs but I had to force it.
