So what if the "Haha what if Nobunaga didn't die like everyone assumed? :)" from ep 2 comes into play. So Yasu gets slashed, and while he doesn't die his body pretty much looks like Okita's bloodied corpse. Both ronin and shinsengumi alike mistake Yasu for Okita's corpse; the real one is gone. They head back to the citadel thinking they completed their mission. (and Yasu is secretly relieved that he got to save Okita without consequence). Cut to ufotable anime preview :^)
