“When you can’t be kind to yourself, we’re here to be kind to you.” “You are strong. A piece of you exists in all of us. So you can’t be all bad. You love all of us dearly, so you must love some part of yourself.”
“It’s like your friends say, you have a big heart. And a big heart will feel hurt by a lot more. Bigger doesn’t mean less vulnerable, it just means more full of love.”
Today I was sitting here feeling awful. This existential dread came over me like a thick veil, and so I tried to write myself out of it. I grabbed a handful of my characters who have different perspectives than I do (some I made, some that are my interpretations of existing characters), and I wrote up a document to have a conversation with them. It’s something a counselor once suggested I try, and it actually helped a lot. They come from me, but the way I write them has a voice of its own, and when I used their logic to look at my problems, well, it kind of helped. But I found these two quotes particularly striking. They came from an unlikely place, but they’re true, and I’m glad I got to find them today. I dunno if any of you needed to hear this today, but I figured I should share, in case you do.
