Gym or Studio? Fitness First vs Sana Studio
Jakarta, 28 March 2017
Hello!
It’s been a pretty long time. I haven’t got the time (and things) to write in a while. However this morning when I was doing my business in the bathroom (sorry if it’s TMI haha) I have thoughts about fitness classes and I would like to discuss it here, in my blog.
First of all, if you see the picture above I put Fitness First and Sana Studio. Why you ask? Because, I have taken classes in both places. So in this post I would tell you from my point of view and based on my own experience.
I could say that I don’t have an ideal body and I’m overweight. My height is 153 cm (5′1/4″) and the last time I checked my weight is 56 kg (123 lbs). So, my goal is to lose weight.
Long story short, I used to be bigger than I am now and then I joined Fitness First (2014 - 2015) and I did lose a lot of weight back then and after that I quit and then I’m gaining a lot of weight again (late 2016) and now I’m currently taking classes in Sana Studio.
I know some people when heard the word “gym” what they pictured is all the barbell and the heavy equipments and treadmills, etc. But a lot of gym nowadays offer various classes from zumba, muaythai to yoga and pilates. Honestly, when I was in Fitness First I NEVER use the equipments (only the treadmill). What I did was joining the classes. My favorite classes was BodyVive, BodyCombat, BodyBalance, Zumba, Gentle Flow and PIlates. What I love about Fitness First is their facilities. They provide free various drinks for members such as coffee, tea, hot water and mineral water. They also loan big and small towels (for during the working out and for showering) and some Fitness First (the Platinum ones, not regular) loan their members tshirts and shorts. They also have sauna! Bottom line is I had a great time in Fitness First.
If I had a great time then why am I not back to Fitness First instead? I simply like to try new things but I’m actually considering to join Fitness First again.
Meanwhile in Sana my favorite class is Pound Fit and what I like about Sana is you pay it per visit unlike Fitness First you have to be a member and pay the membership monthly.
If you are planning to work out and would like to try classes there are things that I think you should consider. I don’t know if you know this but if you want to lose weight you should exercise 3-4 times a week.
Let’s do the math based on what I did to help you decide which one is better. Fitness First or Sana Studio?
Fitness First:
IDR 600K - 800k/month
Unlimited classes everyday (I did 1-2 classes per day and I used to work out 3-4 times a week)
Sana Studio:
IDR 100 - 150k/class
Let’s say you work out 3 times a week IDR 300-450k/week
About IDR 1,200 - 1,800/month
Here’s my thoughts. if you think you can commit to working out 3-4 times/week then you should join Fitness First. But if you can’t commit and you join Fitness First, you just waste your money so, you better join classes at Sana instead cause you pay it per visit.
