They were right behind her. She'd end up in jail if they managed to get her!
Haruhi clutched onto her bag stuffed with food, running as fast as her slender legs could carry her. "Stop! Thief!" The men following her shouted. She was very familiar at the police for stealing things. The girl was known for her sly tricks and fooling appearance. Though it was for a good cause. Her family was poor and she was the only one quick enough to supply them.
They had blocked off the alleys she usually went through to escape. For the first time, she was in panic. Haruhi ran over the sand path to the beach. Maybe she could go over the rocks and climb up the side cliff.
There was quite a distance between her and her persuers. The brunette swung the bag over her shoulder, attempting to climb the rocks. But her palms and feet were sweaty. She slipped right off each time.
Haruhi looked around for other ways of escape and saw a small, wooden boat stranded on the beach. It was her only chance and she used it. With all of her srength, she pushed the boat in the water and hopped in. She kept low as she used the paddles to move the boat away from shore, glad she had gotten away.
With a deep sigh, she lied on her back in the boat, unaware that she drifted asleep. Her boat rode the waves as the girl slept, pulling her to the open sea where she eventually stayed still.
