Lydia the Scourged - Avenging Spirit of Honor
Once a loyal Nord housecarl to the Thane of Whiterun. As a Housecarl, appointed by the Jarl Balgruuf the Greater of Dragonsreach, she was sworn to protect her Thane with her life, and to carry their burdens.
That burden became more than any Housecarl was expected to carry.
With the threat of Alduin gone the Thane decided to pledge their support towards the eradication of the emerging vampire menace which was spreading throughout the Province as a malignant cancer. To combat threat she and her lord joined the Dawnguard, a newly revived order of vampire hunters.
Alas the Thane proved too weak for the lure and promise of power from the blood curse of vampirism and threw into a pact with the Daedra of Dominion. When offered the gift of eternal damnation the sickened Lydia refused and was punished for her defiance as the Thane ruined her face and left eye with a savage claw.
Leaving the nest of vampires, Lydia returned home to seek guidance from the Jarl of her homeland - however upon arriving into Whiterun she soon learned that the leadership of the Dawnguard has been wiped out in a surprise attack. When asked by Balgruuf if whether his newly appointed Thane could indeed commit such an atrocity Lydia waived. Yes - indeed the body of her past lord had carried out the act. But No - it was another corrupting force which directed the Thane’s hand.
So Jarl Balgruuf gave Lydia a choice. Either help raise defences for the city and protect its walls from the coming storm of undead - or leave to hunt down the body of her former lord and put an end to the suffering of the Thane’s soul, restoring their honor, by the blades edge. And so Lydia leaves Whiterun once more, the mark of the slain Dawnguard scratched from her armor, and the legendary sword Dawnbreaker upon her back. The Thane shall be saved - and the undead shall be suffered to walk no more!
