At the heart of all old fairy tales is a shamanic instructional or cautionary tale about how to behave in the Otherworld. Beauty and the Beast is no exception. Belle's father picks a rose from the Otherworld and must pay a price. There are always odd rules in the Faerie kingdom or Otherworld, like don't eat the food or pick the roses if you don't want to get stuck there permanently. I am imagining Belle as she is entering the portal into the Otherworld in my piece for next Saturday's auction.
