Yesterday I was exceedingly fortunate to work with a stunningly beautiful, if somewhat unusual model, in the studio. She was patient and kind and never fully took her eyes off me. I like to think we became friends... Or, rather, I do hope. When one has the privilege of working in close proximity to a creature of this silent sort of finesse, quietly observing the world, content to let it pass her by as frivolous and loud and uninteresting as so much of it truly is... it is understandable if one may feel humbled by something mighty, if tender in its strength. She can fly, you know, stealth and quickness and a strategic mind her holy trinity, no need to answer to anyone save that of instinct and a midnight contemplation. I'm a better person for having worked with her as closely as I did. It's humbling to know that she likely went away thoroughly unchanged by our interaction. In a metaphor for compatibility, we offer two creatures seemingly mirrored, so close as to be the same, joined at the base of supposed reflection; beginning as one, separating only as the angle of field becomes more apparent. Upon further consideration, though, with closer observation, and despite their core, the pair begin to have differences: their immediate sphere of influence only overlapping at an asymmetrical equator. Here we find each of them seeking the same energy, that sustaining source, while looking in different directions and dealing with the elements, drinking and going thirsty on their own time. They live and breathe, side by side, adding quietly to the land around them. It is to their similarities we are drawn but it is in their subtle differences and unique character we find joy, and a Zen obsession: those moments of quiet discovery when we merely wait and watch and come to understand. Caught this cutie napping at Thanksgiving Point Gardens. She was taking a well earned siesta whilst her three little ones snacked on freshly caught rat. Last shot of the last class at the end of the last day of the Monument Valley workshop with @tamronusa and @pixelsfoto. The rains have come to Monument Valley and the highway has gone from asphalt to obsidian, the glass road to eternity. Time exists solely in the shifting clouds and the occasional motorist, ghosts from another era though they be... Souls on the long path tracing Triassic seas and a volcanic core once the mouth of a magma river, earthblood now petrified and exposed in the great basin. These worlds are the memories found within the double helix, the nucleic center of our animal selves.
