Varian's Blue Streak

I know IRL the blue streak was just a design choice and nothing more, but I like the head canon that Varian's blue streak is due to residual influence from the moonstone. This may seem like a tangent, but let me cook: I used to have a coworker whose husband suffered from health issues because his father was exposed to agent orange during the Vietnam war. He himself did not come into contact with it because he was not conceived yet, but his father's exposure to it lead to his progeny having health issues. I think Quirin being close to the moonstone affected Varian. Maybe not enough to give Varian powers, but enough to have a touch of influence over him. (This post brought to you by my current obsession with a song written from the POV of a Vietnam vet, which reminded me of my old coworker's husband, which reminded me of this head canon.)

EUGENE BEING YOUR BODYGUARD

Eugene has always felt very protective of you, always checking on you

Taking care of you even in the smallest things

Putting an arm over your shoulders when you’re cold

Or taking your hand to keep track of you when it’s dark and dangerous

So after some time he proclaimed himself your bodyguard

Because there was no one he trusted more than himself

So there was no one he would let protect you other than himself

He can be a little overbearing, never letting you go anywhere

Because this place is too dangerous, or that place is too far away

And knowing it sometimes bothers you, he would relief the tension

Mostly with humor, being silly and goofy to make sure you’re relaxed

For example, deliberately being overprotective until you have to laugh

Because it’s so ridiculous and over the top that it’s not an accident

Like being in a calm and peaceful city and him being stupid

Putting an arm around your waist and promising to protect you

Despite the fact that there is absolutely no danger anywhere

As much as Eugene can joke around sometimes, you know it’s true

You know Eugene wouldn’t hesitate to give his life for you

That he would protect you no matter what, whatever it takes

Because you are too important for him, you are too special

And in his mind, your life is worth so much more than his

You let him know that he’s important as well, that you care about him

But since Eugene is so intent on protecting you, he doesn’t see it

So you try to look after him yourself, even if in smaller ways

Even if it’s just with compliments or words of gratitude

Eugene may be your bodyguard, but you’re like his guardian angel

trans headcanons

sure, transfemme cass is great and all, but have you considered...transmasculine Cass, transfeminine Eugene and intersex Rapunzel???

As a trans person I just feel like...this is an elite take. I <3 my transfemme sisters, but I am a hardcore Cass kinnie and always have headcanoned them as transmasc (still use she/her on here cause it’s my personal RP hc but--). Eugene though...now that’s a fruitcake I could see using she/he/they pronouns. 

(edit for clarity as of 07/07/26: I used to identify as FtM, female is my birth sex and now the gender i mostly identify with, I use she/her/they pronouns. this post was made before i detransitioned towards the end of 2023. with that said enjoy the trans HCs :3)

Random Eugene Headcanon

He isn’t scared of spiders and bugs like Lance is but he still doesn’t like them near him and he refuses to touch them.

I just imagine he’s chilling and sees a spider in the corner near his bed and he’s like, “Gross. Absolutely not.” So he goes and gets Rapunzel so she can move it outside.

Rapunzel’s like, “😒”

Tangled headcanon- The sleeping dust Varian used on Arianna- he invented it because he has insomnia. It was actually created to be a knock out drug just so he could get a good night’s sleep.

Varian headcanons

In honor of the series ending on Sunday, I’ve decided to share some headcanons I have for everyone’s favorite alchemy boy

His goggles were a gift to him by his mother when he was little boy, since he had them in No Time Like the Past. She gave them to him to encourage his interest in science. But now that she’s gone, they’re kind of all he has left of her

He has a tendency to talk in his sleep, but only when he gets nightmares, which unfortunately happens fairly often. They’re always about his dad and his guilt for everything that happened

Because of how many times he’s nearly fallen to his death, Varian now has a fear of heights. He also has claustrophobia because of his time spent in prison in a jail cell. He also doesn’t really like snow because they remind him of the day his father got trapped

He actually misses his mom quite a bit but because she died when he was very young he doesn’t hardly remember her anymore. He just knows that she was kind and supportive and that he has her eyes

He has a really improper sleep schedule and will often stay up for days without sleeping, but whenever he does sleep he’s out like a light and is known to fall asleep at his desk while working. He also can get so caught up in his work that he might end up forgetting to eat

He probably has a lot of burn marks or scars from alchemy incidents

Okay I have some happy ones I promise it’s not just angst

Varian has a hidden artistic/musical side to his personality that he doesn’t often show. For instance, he can play guitar and he likes to sing but he doesn’t always show it off because people mainly know him as the Science Kid TM

His favorite holiday is the lantern festival and his favorite part about it is getting to travel to the kingdom and spend time with his father. As a young boy he was fascinated by the science behind how the lanterns floated and a lantern of his own design was one of his first successful inventions

He likes to bake and will often try out new recipes and ingredients because it’s basically just alchemy but less volatile. He’ll probably still find a way to catch something on fire though

He also has freckles on his shoulders

His favorite desserts are anything with apples in them. So apple pie, apple cobbler, etc.

so i have a headcanon where hector was actually RAISED by binturongs, and the two he hangs around with are basically his siblings.  so anyway, i feel like he’d have some mannerisms that match theirs.  so binturongs sleep like this, right? 

I think that hector probably seeps like that too.  i’m gonna have to draw this.

not to be gross, but Eugene is almost 100% certainly that “concerned bf” type who’s constantly following Rapunzel around like “don’t forget your gloves! it’s cold out!” or “please be careful out there!” when she’s getting ready to ride out

it’s always met with a fond smile or a chuckle, or a kiss on the cheek with a softly chided “don’t worry!” added

and rationally, he does know that Rapunzel can absolutely take care of herself, and has since the beginning. but he still, no matter how many times he scolds himself to do otherwise, can’t stop just. worrying
