There’s an app that has helped me so much with aquarium logging, I have to give it a shout out.

It’s called AquaticLog, and it’s a mobile app that keeps track of just about anything you’d want to in an aquarium.

You get at-a-glance information from your latest logged tests as soon as you open the app, which includes warnings if your parameters stray out of the range you set!

It keeps record of every test you log, and allows you to add notes on each test. It also graphs your tests so you can easily see how they change over time!

It also keeps track of water changes, livestock, dosing, feeding, what products you use, just about anything you could need. You can add multiple tanks, and it’s set up to cater to any aquarium type, not just reefs.

It was created and is maintained by Dmitri Tumanov, who recently decided to remove the subscription fee for a premium account. All the features are now free. He also has a YouTube channel, showing off his gorgeous reef tanks, as well as tutorials and product reviews.

What all would I need to set up a shrimp bowl?

The specifics are going to vary depending on what kind of shrimp, but for basics you’ll need:

• some sort of glass or acrylic container, that holds at least 1 gallon - though a lot of shrimp will prefer bigger - with an open top

• substrate - sand or gravel

• some hides for your shrimp - live or fake plants, driftwood, rocks, fake aquarium decorations

• depending on the type of shrimp and your climate, you may need a betta heater

• calcium supplements (shrimp balls, crushed eggshell, etc)

• and the proper additives for your water, which will vary per shrimp - dechlorinator, salt, trace elements, etc

• test kits, again varies depending on what type of shrimp, but at least for temperature, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH

• cleaning supplies, I use a toothbrush and small airline tube for water changes

• a light, if wanted

Be sure to do research into your specific shrimp, and any products you decide to use! Your shrimp bowl will have to be fully cycled before adding any livestock, and it will need to be regularly maintained to keep a stable environment. You should also be aware of the affect any decorations you add will have, for example how driftwood will lower pH and natural sand can raise it.

After I asked about CaribSea’s freshwater products last year, they decided to bring some of them to the show this year! They have freshwater rocks and substrate, and they look great! I really like the wood stone (in my hand on the bottom left). I use their products in all my tanks, I love them.

Plz help. I just set up a 55 gallon planted tank and put 10 bronze corydoras in there and I'm stumped! I have no idea what else to put. What mid to upper level fish would you put in there?

Congratulations on your new tank!!! I’m not extremely familiar with freshwater aquaria, but I can offer a few ideas. Maybe my followers will have more

Powder blue or honey Gouramis are always a fav. You could also consider a school of glass catfish, or a school of neon or ember tetras. Maybe hatchetfish?? I’m not sure how experienced you are, but absolutely research any of these fish before you make a decision, to be sure they’ll work for you. Best of luck!!

to sparkingjoyinmyself-- hi!!! dwarf gouramis are a really good choice (powder blue, flame, honey, etc!!) as a centerpiece fish but they dont require schools, so getting other schooling fish like nonaggressive and small tetras (neons, cardinals, black neons, rummynose), guppies, swords, or smaller semi-aggressive barbs (like cherries) would be good as a way to fill up the tank !! be careful not to max out the tank tho since u already have 10 cories, but hmu if u wanna ask more questions also!!

Hi I'm just a simple boi looking to start a heavily planted 29 gal with a super red long fin bristlenose and some hatchet fish and was wondering what weird/ugly fish youd recommend to live with them

First off: sorry this took so longshdhsh

Second: I’m not very well versed in freshwater fish! There’s so many in the hobby I don’t know about. But loaches are some pretty funky fish. Lots of variety but all just a little bit weird. You’d have to look into certain kinds and their care requirements though. Also ghost/glass catfish? Spooky doods. I believe they have the same requirements as your other fish, as well. I haven’t researched this in-depth, so definitely do your research before you make a decision!
