Rainbow Capitalism is bad the same way BLM capitalism is bad. Here’s one of the first things you learn as a black person shopping in February or June: very few of the stuff you see sold is by black owned owned business. So you end up buying a Black Lives Matters or a Juneteenth shirt from a white corporation. This is why you buy small and buy local. And that applies to lgbtq+ people as well. If you are queer you should be anti-capitalist. If you’re not queer you should be anti capitalist. We should all be against an economic system that is literally incapable of not being exploitative. The fact that mfing Target is a thermometer of seeing the level of queer or poc acceptance in our country at any given time is MADNESS. And that should not be celebrated! It should be completely and utterly abolished. I don’t want a bunch on White able bodied capitalist men profiting off of me and yeah I have a right to be upset about that. I am not queer as in gay; I’m queer as in fuck you. And that you applied to every single racist, ableist, misogynistic, anti environmental violent, and classist system, not just homo/transphobic. If you’re “queer” but not radically intersectional, you’re not freaking queer. Your just gay. Rainbow Capitalism is the same as Anarcho-Capitalism: an absurdity.

I, like a lot of you, haven't stepped foot in a Target since their DEI decision, and I don't plan on shopping there again basically ever.
But today, I had an urgent need for a replacement for something health related, and Target was the closest place to get one (the other option was Walmart 15 minutes further away), so, I called my husband for a "You're not a bad person for going there" pep talk, and in I went.
There was zero PRIDE section.
Not an end cap, not a shelf, not a single T-shirt.
I wasn't expecting much. I figured they'd have moved it from the front of the store to a hidden corner, and that it would be a few unoriginal shirts mostly aimed at allies, and a dog bandana or two.
I was unprepared for nothing, though I suppose I should've been.
Anyways.
If you are queer and still shopping at Target, let this be your sign to stop right now. When a corporation tells you what they stand for -- and what they won't -- believe them.
Pay attention to the rainbow capitalism this year, and if a company is participating in it this year, feel free to let it make you feel a little hopeful, and a little more favorable to that company. When it's less socially acceptable to make your company logo rainbow colored, and they do it anyway, it means something.*
*this is not to say that any company can be considered a friend, but the ones that aren't openly hostile are at least that
