The promised Sureshot POV typed directly into your inbox because I can’t be bothered to formalize it so it’s very notes like
So! What PB doesn’t see is the whole exchange between Getaway and Atomizer which also brings up the question of why Getaway doesn’t bother testing Sureshot the same way
The short answer is obviously because Sureshot is on a tight enough leash that Getaway can’t see him betraying him, and in a sense he is correct since in my mind Sureshot has been equating whatever Getaway wants as his own desires and justifying them that way
Sureshot has convinced himself that everything that happens is necessary because he wanted it and Getaway just happened to have the same goals
Regardless of what Getaway was actually intending though, having Sureshot witness this whole loyalty test has shaken some of his beliefs
Cause if you think about it, Sureshot didn’t had to be there, but Getaway let him tag along and then entrusted the clean up to him. In Sureshot’s mind this is extremely insulting cause clearly he doesn’t pose a threat to Getaway and yet Getaway still keeps Atomizer closer (leaving together) despite Sureshot’s loyalty. It kind of also feels like a test, whether Rook (dead) or Atomizer is the example Sureshot isn’t sure but he’s suddenly got the clarity that he isn’t in control anymore.
Which is why he was so shaken when PB walked in (also he called him PB! I wanted that to come across as in that moment Sureshot is genuinely reaching out for once and looking at his former leader for guidance since he’s so lost and shaken)
As PB talks to him he isn’t 100% present, Sureshot has been cornered and has pivoted to survival mode. What Pointblank is proposing is well meaning and logical from his POV but Sureshot knows a lot more than PB, he knows how hard it’d be to actually escape and what’s more he has more to fear than PB if they get caught
When PB keeps tearing into the delusions Sureshot has built to self-soothe, he doubles down and lashes out. Because if everything that’s happened isn’t worth it, isn’t what he actually wanted, what was it all for? He can’t afford to regret, for his sanity if nothing else. So if he’s not the problem then clearly Pointblank is.
I’m not sure if Sureshot was actually trying to kill Pointblank in that moment, he was mainly trying to get him to stop talking and push him away again, once he takes a step back and realizes what he’s done he’s more numb than anything
Mostly because he knows that Getaway will know eventually and that scares him
mm anyways that’s most my thoughts on that, Sureshot is officially alone, PB is officially off the ship and I can finally get back to Crosshairs and Roddy
I don’t know if you’ve read the full thing (of the PB losing his mind extravaganza lol) so if you have thoughts please let me know
or idk let me know if I butchered your babies/j
or feel free to make Sureshot more of a dick
Sureshot is a very, very pathetic and sad person in this story (<- taking so much advantage over IDW1 Sureshot being a blank slate)
He’s not noticeably smart— well he’s not dumb, just.. not too focused on it— he’s not friendly, not popular, not objectively attractive (he is to us but shhh we’re talking on the ship), and has a history of violence and abuse (inflicted on and towards others). The one thing he has going for him is his skill as a sharpshooter, but what good is that in a post-war world? And his gun broke up with him so lol?!?
Even while he was working under Pointblank, Sureshot wasn’t that good at self-reflection and having thoughtful/educated opinions— literally, the guy has had to be pushed just to say if he didn’t like a plan or something. Not because he’s trying to be polite or respectful (like Crosshairs), but because bro doesn’t comprehend those kind of thoughts. They don’t compute.
(Not like Pointblank could afford to think too hard about the codependency during the time, it was easy to have a loyal soldier carry out orders when needed to— even if said soldier clung to him every other moment or fell apart)
Anyway— too many wild, out of control thoughts (like ‘disobeying’ his Trusted Figure) make him feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable (leading to anger and frustration, a hint of sadness too). The Trusted Figures—people that, y’know, he trusts to have the Correct Answers and ideas—having been Optimus, Pointblank, Rodimus (very briefly), and now Getaway. This kind of approach to life leads to him becoming very impulsive and delusional, like how we see in the doc, especially when challenged (like Pointblank has been doing!!!!)
Sureshot is a loyal soldier first, not a living guy with the ability to think for himself in a constructive manner. Bro can lash out violently or fuck something/get fucked and that’s the extent rn LMAO his masculinity is as thin as rice paper you could say—
This is all very much thanks to the war, ofc, bro is just very mentally unwell and needs so much help— Sureshot please get therapy this is not a healthy way to live 😭
TL;DR— I have been reading the doc when I have the time and oml I love what’s going on here, I can’t wait to see what happens to Pointblank now that he’s escaped the Getaway’d Security Team. You’ve been capturing my thoughts on how these characters act to a T. The story is so OOC anyway, don’t even worry about mischaracterizing my trio of goobers—
Pointblank is struggling, Sureshot is struggling, Crosshairs is gone—! It’s spooky, really, knowing how Sureshot operates and knowing that Getaway will fucking nerf Atomizer soon. Sureshot wants to trust Getaway so badly and it’s so sad :(
Like, baby, you aren’t safe. Trust your former commander for one god damn second and we can deal with your feelings after 😭😭😭 PLEAAAASE
*sigh* I can’t wait for CrossRod it’s gonna be sad/hj (<- has no idea what happens next FUCK)
