The Proud Sire

Within the hidden springs of Nolan, Karshok stood in the steaming water heated with the use of his magic. Water trickled down the smooth surface of his burn scars that covered more than half his body, and along the fresh wounds from earlier today. With a single flick of a claw, a flame was conjured on it's tip which he used to slowly cauterize the deep gash across his chest. 

"It's been three years since I've last seen Kyra. She has grown. Not just in size but in strength. And today, she proved that to me in the Bane. She is still young though and has much to learn. It will take more than strength to be a successful soldier of the Legions. I do know that, from what I've seen on this day, she will not disappoint me. I am proud of her. And if Vaira was still here, she would be proud of her as well."

79 Season of the Phoenix 1327 AE

I'm happy to have finally appointed Rheina as my new captain. Her help will be invaluable, and I at least think we'll make a great team.

However, it was immediately clear that she was less than thrilled to get stuck with me instead of Liathano. She tried to play it off and look enthusaistic later, but it's clear that she just wanted to avoid offending me.

So I'm the least impressive Warmaster right now. I'm the short end of the stick. I suppose that was already fairly obvious, but the truth can really hurt if it hits you just right.

So I suppose I'll just have to do better, for the sake of both our reputations.

58: Is your OC introverted or extroverted? ((And explain!))

"Well that’s a difficult question, because I’m not sure where I lie on that spectrum." Reed had to look up towards the sky in thought before he started to answer the question fully.

"See, I spent many years of my life on my own. Not necessarily because I hate other people, but because I felt like the solitude was necessary. I don’t want to sound like a whiner here, or somebody who’s caught up in their past but…" A frown spread across his features as he began to recall the potentially unpleasant sounding memories. "I ran away from home when I was about ten, and didn’t look back until I was already a man, too many years later. I spent a lot of time in solitude, in the wilderness. Even after I patched things up with my dad and sister, I still decided to live my life on the road with a very minimal amount of possessions. I intentionally lived in the wild, and was happy there, so I guess that is different from being a street-rat?"

"I don’t live that way anymore though, I have an apartment and I am fiercely devoted to an established organization. I do a lot of talking and schmoozing in order to be successful in my line of work, and I don’t shy away from it one bit. I am apparently well groomed, stylish, charming, and perfectly comfortable in almost any conceivable social setting. I think I’m good at adapting." He cleared his throat and smiled, returning his attention and eye-contact to the person who asked the question. "I appreciate having a group and a sort of ‘family’ that I feel I really belong to. I don’t feel like I have to be out on my own anymore.”

He clapped his hands lightly on his knees as he wrapped up the answer. “But I guess the long and short of it is, I am both… or neither. I enjoy the attention of others, and I actively seek to stay in contact with people. However I am just as happy completely on my own. I guess I just like to alternate, and escape every so often in order to get away from the hectic confinement of the city.”

"What do you think? I’m twenty-six years old, I’ve practiced elementalism pretty much since I could walk, and I am a professional, experienced mercenary.” Reed snorted and gave an amused look to the person who asked the ridiculous question.

"We live in a dangerous world where the countryside in every region is full of various deadly creatures and murderers who would happily take my life without a second thought. Even before I was a mercenary, my courier work even demanded that I kill out of self defense every once in a while.”

After rolling one of his shoulders absently, he continued. “If you’re asking if my organization is a guild of assassins you’d be wrong. While we are not afraid of confidential, discreet assassination contracts with trusted employers, nine times out of ten the only bounties we chase are officially posted by lawmakers. And even then, we prefer to bring targets in alive because usually the reward is bigger. Not to mention that we have a somewhat clean reputation to protect in the eyes of the law.”

Reed then leaned forward, letting the warm glow of the firelight illuminate his face more clearly. “But I bet you want to know about more intimate, personal examples of murder that I may or have not committed.” He paused again before continuing. “So why don’t you ask the two drunk Jormag-loving morons who took my mentor from me? That is, if you can find them.”

11: What animal does your OC relate to?

"Well, there’s two, I guess."

Reed takes his jacket off and rolls up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo on the side of his right shoulder. The simple, graphic looking tattoo depicts the silhouette of a howling wolf’s head from the side.

"The wolf will always be important to me for many reasons. I matured into an adult during the years that I spent traveling through the Shiverpeaks with my norn mentor, Djornak the Stormfist. From him, I of course learned and lived by the principles of the wild spirits. Wolf is known for its cunning, its loyalty, and its strength in numbers." He rolled the sleeve back down before he continued speaking. "Later on I helped found and run a group of adventurers called the ‘Echoing howls,’ which also made a point to follow the Wolf’s teachings. This tattoo is of its logo."

"However." He leaned and shifted his weight slightly, getting more comfortable in his spot on the dirt in front of the fire. "Personally, I think I relate best to the snow leopard. The spirit represents independence, strategy and the value of concealment. I’m an elementalist, and a damn good one, but I’m not good at all with conventional, face to face combat. I spent many years as a courier, where I used my skills primarily to cross the  country side as quickly and as unnoticed as possible. When I engage opponents outside of training settings, I am careful, strategic, creative and ruthless. I make sure that I do everything I can to reduce the risk of personal harm, and have every advantage possible. I’m surprisingly sneaky, elementalists have a lot of tools at their disposal for misdirection and concealment."

He blinked, realizing that his answer was pretty long and self-centered. “But yea, snow leopard. Sneaky. Strategic. Deadly. Not just because of the spirit, I think we have a lot in common. I’m also pretty partial to the snow, so… yeah. I’m sure that about answers your question?”
