Upright: The four of Wands is typically seen as a celebration, union and time of expression. What could they be expressing? What is there to celebrate? If you picture the transition you’ve seen so far in cards Ace through Three, and think of the physical placement of the wands you saw in those cards this is the first time you’ve seen the wands stand on their own. In those previous cards they’re held on to or watched over.
The celebration in the Four of Wands lies within the security these wands now keep on their own.
When you pull this card you know you can relax and let loose, find joy in what you have accomplished and remember: All moments are fleeting so make sure you grab this one before it slips away!
Look at the imagery and find what stands out to you. Is it the castle which potentially symbolizes success? Is it the wreath and flowers at the top of the wands and in the hands of the figures? This wreath is a display of glory and victory. Did you notice the figure on the right and how their robes match The Magician’s? I mentioned before that The Magician is the Major’s representation of the suit of Wands and it’s likely that this will be displayed and echoed throughout the suit. But why? (More on that when we work through the Majors)
Reversed: There is a delay in celebration or getting what is rightfully yours. What you had thought to be true, what you relied to be coming has broken down and suffered setbacks somewhere along the way. Ask yourself where things could have gone wrong and if you’re able to fix them. If not, let go and find what joy in what you can.
