I actually think episode 409 will circle back to 401? In 401 Tim was there for Lucy, in 409 Lucy will be there for Tim. There will be a moment to mirror the moment in 401. Then when we think things might be getting good for us, Tim will chicken out and call Ashley 🤡.
Yeeees. I hope there is that moment of gravity between them. Even the stuff with Ashley aside, it would be good to see them be close and intimate in a way we just haven't since episode 1.
But you're right, I have a bad feeling they'll keep up the pattern of intensity/reset that's dogged Chenford since the beginning.
I think the only way to cope with this show is to just take what's good for you and pretend you don't see any of the other crap. For me, I'm already pretending 02-07 more or less don't exist, and then when Ashley shows up, I shall be going into her storylines like 🙈 and will simply pretend it never happened.
Hopefully there aren't too many scenes with her to skip, because between her and the endlessly boring Nolan, it's likely I'm going to be skipping 38/40 minutes of the episode for the foreseeable future...
The writing, if it is as it has been since the start of this season, isn't tight or subtle enough for an Ashley / Chenford tension storyline to come off well imo. However, there are different writers coming up around the time of Ashley's return I *think* including Brynn Malone who's obviously capable of decent pacing and storytelling (DoD writer). It's just whether she hit the on button in her brain on the day she wrote it I guess. She was also behind Amber, though, so 🤷♀️
A Kaylor watched an Insta story. This is how her world collapsed.
It comes down to those goddamn balloons. Filling Taylor’s dressing room with balloons and her being happy about it, that screams New Relationship Energy. Kaylor danced through the avalanche and lost. The Heartbreak Prince has claimed her Miss Americana, and it all happened right under our noses.
Disclaimer: even though it may sound like I’m stating this as fact, I’m not. Treat everything as conjecture. But still... 🎈🎈🎈
Does this mean Kaylor is over and it’s time for Tashley to rise? I don’t know. It does still seem like T and K are playing to the Kaylors, which could mean a few different things:
They’re still together, in an open or polyamorous relationship, but still can’t go public for whatever reason. Tashley becomes the glass-closeted public face of a more complex triad or quad (depending on whether Halsey is still with Evan; given that Joe wasn’t at Taylor’s party, we can safely assume he’s out of the picture).
They have broken up amicably because their situation is insurmountable. For either of the last two, this is likely happening with Karlie’s blessing, and the continued Koincidences are simply informing fans that they’re still good friends.
A horrible breakup. Halsey is a rebound. Seems unlikely; it hardly makes sense to keep up the charade for a small section of the fandom.
It seems unlikely to me that a bad breakup is what’s going on here, and it appears overwhelmingly likely that Tay and H are together in some fashion. Otherwise, Halsey is being a creepy, overbearing weirdo, and I think Taylor’s dealt with enough of them that she wouldn’t be tolerating that.
I do hope Karlie is still in the picture somehow, whether as a friend or a primary partner. But Halsey hasn’t been at all subtle about her Tay crush, and it looks like she’s achieved her objective.
We will know for sure if T and H are joined at the hip at “Manic”’s release party...
Can we talk about how Ashley Benson and Tyler Blackburn are both in gay relationships rn?? This is the best outcome from PLL I could’ve ever imagined lmao
Sigrid, many years ago on a island we lived on called Berk, we rode and lived amungst dragons and because of your strong and wise mother, we have made a future with them the best thing we ever could have wanted. Your uncle Hiccup, our strong and all mighty Cheif and his wife Astrid, have started a family of their own, much like us 4. Someday, you will train a dragon and ride the skies like your parents did in their youth.

Love your thoughts on the show so far! If we get meaningful Chenford in the episode with Tim’s father, I feel like it might be overshadowed by the Ashley cloud. And I don’t like that the show has come to this
Thanks for reading!
I agree that Ashley looms large currently. This is why it's been so irritating that they've gone with another love interest. At this late stage (and yes, mid S4 is late stage for a network show in 2021, sorry), it feels entirely needless to be introducing this kind of thing.
It makes the Chenford relationship revert to being incredibly early stage, as opposed to being on the cusp of anything new (which requires a tightening of focus on the relationship between them to create momentum). It also dilutes Tim's screentime and opens up the possibility for some really not fun tropes.
To me the fact that Ashley's returning in the back end for an indefinite stint is just indicative that we still have to go around the houses to get to any sort of Chenford endgame, despite having already been around them several times before.
And every interaction in the interim becomes a bit... unpleasant, because you know that Tim's very likely about to swan off into someone else's arms for some time. So while the family episodes might be fun and might even indicate something between Chenford, there's a risk the writers reset for the thousandth time by having Tim then date someone else.
Something I was thinking about in regards to the retiring cop and how he was telling Tim he was proud of him etc and that we know we are going to meet Tim's dad is that if the Rookie had been telling a more nuanced story I could see Tim seeking this father figure/ perfect family kind of thing. Like seeing Jerry as the father figure he never had and seeing Ashley as someone he is attracted to but also is part of this wholesome loving family Tim (likely) never had and wants.
Yeah, interesting. Jerry and his arc were a little saccharine for me but I see what you're saying about the very 'America's family' vibe. I think you're right in that the storylines aren't that nuanced so they may not even have thought of this as an option though. Personally I didn't really have Tim down as being so immediately open to delving into someone else's family life as they showed us.
I'm not really expecting them to get into it with Jerry/Tim. I more saw him as a one hit way for them to shoehorn this new love interest in for Tim and don't feel like we'll see Jerry again. Who knows though.
I will say, it will leave a bad, bad taste in my mouth if this means that instead of having that deep, soul-searching conversation with Lucy about his father and his past pain, he has it with Ashley. That would be, in my opinion, unforgivable.
Especially since they threw in that one liner about his upbringing when they were discussing kids, and failed to have Lucy ask one single follow up question on it.
The timing of Ashley arriving and his family coming up really makes me worry.
