TASK TWO: FAMILY TREE
Marvin Turner (Denzel Washington)
Marvin Turner, the oldest of the Turner brothers, and the one who rightly should have taken over the Turner family business, decided a long time ago that he didn’t want any part in what his father had started. Moving to Mystic, Connecticut to get far enough away from the Turner business but close enough he could still have a relationship with his niece and nephew, Marvin and his wife had a happy life. As the real father figure in Marcus’s life, Marvin taught him many life lessons, including but not limited to sharing his skill with boxing. Marvin passed away almost three years ago, but it took Marcus forcibly loosing his family title for him finally come and take over Retrograde after Marvin left it to him.
Annalise Turner (Angela Bassett)
Annalise was the kindest, softest, and yet strongest woman Marcus ever knew. Where Marvin was more about tough love, Annalise poured love and care into Marcus. She wasn’t a push over though. When she told you to do something, you did it, no questions asked. Marcus loved her more than just about anyone ever and took it really hard when she passed away from cancer when Marcus was 12 years old.
Michael Turner (Forest Whittaker)
The intelligent, hardworking Michael Turner never had time for his children. They were simply a necessity to carrying on the family name. From the very moment Marcus was born, Michael treated him more like an inconvenience than a beloved son and Marcus knew this. Part of why he began acting out was simply to try and push his father’s buttons. He wanted Marcus to be an inconvenience? Well, then Marcus could be an inconvenience.
Dominique Turner (Vanessa Williams)
While her husband was busy building and running Turner Corp., Dominique thrived building and preserving the family’s name in society. She wasn’t exactly warm to Marcus, but of his two parents, she was always the one whose love and attention Marcus strove to earn the most. But nothing he could do was ever good enough. So eventually, he simply gave up trying. When he fell into his playboy ways, Dominique was only disappointed in how it reflected on the family. She couldn’t seem to care less about his actual well-being.
Marcus Turner (Jesse Williams)
The eldest child of Michael and Dominique, Marcus is the family disappointment. He was supposed to carry on the family name and business, but after his ex-wife framed him to make it look like he cheated and outed this to the tabloids, the board of Turner Corp. decided Marcus wasn’t fit to have any sort of leadership role within the company. He left New York to go take over his uncle’s gym in Mystic.
Nimah Turner (Aisha Dee)
As the baby of the family, with less expectations placed on them than their older brother, Nimah received all of the warmth Marcus’s childhood lacked. While their parents still didn’t really ~parent, they at least felt more affection for their daughter and weren’t so hard on her. As such, Marcus and Nimah’s relationship is strained at best, but he cares a great deal for his sibling.

Home or Hogwarts?
Home bedroom, though she would pick Hogwarts generally. While Hogwarts for Cassie is a place filled with adventure, new possibilities and everything new that she has been dreaming of for so long; she is still a sucker for her room at home. Mainly because it feels so familiar and has all of her notebooks, books, and is filled so many memories of her childhood and Stan. Though she has to admit, having the library so close by here, really does give it a run for it’s money.
Five memories:
Ink stains: It is no surprise to anyone that Cassie writes practically every spare moment that she can and anywhere for that matter. Her bed has often been the location of many a scribbling session. Notoriously clumsy, Cassie has spilt ink countless times all over her bed or on her hands and then touched something. There are ink stains on the curtains and bed frame to no ones surprise.
A memory with Stan: Lying on her bed and listening to records was always a common occurrence between the pair. They’d done it so many times back home, music had always been a big part of their friendship. A new record meant a listen and dance session. Cassie had quite literally dragged him off her bed so they could flail around the room haphazardly, letting them limbs swing in every direction. Though it was a common theme, it would always be one of Cassie’s favourite memories because it was the first time they listened to one of their shared favourite records. Even if she had accidentally managed to hit him in the face while swinging her arms about.
A memory with Mary @maryconrad: It truly was a blessing is disguise that the two girls were not put in a dorm together. Of course not for either of them, they would have loved in it. But the destruction that they both would have caused from shenanigans would have been countless if they’d been in each others company as long as room mates were. Though that didn’t mean that they never got up to any trouble. They were drinking in Cassie’s room one evening before they headed down to the lake to meet up with the rest of the gang. Mary had stolen a bottle of wine from the kitchen and Cassie was never one to say no to anything. They’d ended up jumping along to Cassie’s record player on her bed. Bouncing at the wrong time, Cassie had ended up bouncing into the bed post. Leaving more of a dent on her head than anything else. But there is still a splinter in the wood from how hard she hit it.
Proving a point: Stubborn as a bull, if she has a point to prove she will make sure that she does. Something she finds the need to do more often than it feels like she comes up for a air. This time it had been a debate with her room mates. She’d been standing on her bed for a height advance as if some how being that little bit taller would make her voice more impactful, when she’d stubbed her toe hard on the footer of the bed leaving it bruised for weeks.
Smoking: Cassie had been smoking in her room in her fourth year, while going to light another cigarette with her wand instead of a lighter, a spark flew from her wand and caught onto her curtain setting them on fire. Luckily she’d managed to put the fire out quickly, but there is still a visible scorch mark.
10 things you could find in cassie’s corner:
1) books upon books: an avid reader, along with her suitcase there are countless books stashed under her bed. Whether it be notebooks that have run out of pages, muggle books - particularly her favourite poet Sylvia Plath -, or more reluctantly school books, every breath she takes is meant to be filled with the written word and that’s just how Cassie likes it. 2) the infamous patch work denim jacket: normally slung across the end of her bed when she isn’t wearing it, the jacket is adorned with patched given to her by her best friend Stan. 3) blanket her mum made for her and it acts as a piece from home 4) Gael’s house: Cassie’s pet at Hogwarts is a little tiny toad named Gael, she made a little make shift home for them which lives just at the under the foot of her bed 5) Hanging stars: a small reminder of home, Cassie took a few stars from her sibling’s + Stan’s old hide away den. It gives her comfort knowing she can look up at them every night. She’d got one each made by Eddie (@edmundmacmillan), Mel (@melmacmillan), Lizzie (@lizziemac), Stan and herself. 6) The record player Stan bought her: One of her prized possessions, it takes pride of place by her bed side with the small amount of records she owns - mainly the beatles, queen, david bowie and fleetwood mac 7) An unreasonable amount of tea: Cassie drinks tea as if it is water. When she is writing in the dorms or common room, you can bet she has a cup of cinnamon black by her side 8) Scrunchies: There is always atleast two or three stray scrunchies by her record player for her to bung her hair up out of the way and off her face. 9) Mugs: there is a couple of mugs she’d brought from home that she keeps under her bed for whenever she wants some tea. She used to borrow them from the kitchen, but would forget she had them and would always get slight death stares whenever she’d go back down after breaking a couple. So after first year, her own became necessary 10) Quills and parchment: there is an abundance of ink, quills, scrap pieces of parchment, newspaper clippings and the odd new notebook always around Cassie’s bed to grab at a moments notice.
`TASK 2: THE PLAYLIST. ( x )
01. WAVING THROUGH A WINDOW : “on the outside, always looking in. will I ever be more than I’ve always been?” 02. TOO MUCH : sometimes the world just feels like too much, and sometimes you invest too much time in things that don’t work out. 03. USE SOMEBODY : kind of straightforward. 04. AIN’T IT FUN : being a grown up sucks, and life sucks, but make it pop. 05. WHO’S LOOKING OUT : "who’s looking out for you now?” 06. HUMAN : a song representing humanity, and the fact that no one has to be perfect.
